It is now the next week I received the phone call that Jane's wedding moved up and now it's in a week.
The police are still working on Zaz's case. They don't have any suspects. They haven't revealed who he was seeing although I have a pretty good idea.
I head down to the lounge to see Jane and Rafael. Jane was acting weird almost like she was trying to avoid Rafael.
Soon Rafael left smiling at me on his way out.
"What was that?" I ask Jane
"What was what." She replies
"You were being weird. You also look like you're trying to avoid Rafael. " I say. I guess I've been around my brother so much his detective skills have rubbed off on me.
"I wasn't trying to avoid him." She stutters.
"Fine don't tell me but I'll figure it out anyway." I say letting her get back to work
"Murder at the Marbella.That's what I wake up to this morning." Emilio says handing his son a newspaper. As we're walking behind him.
"Which is why we're going on a media blitz. We're gonna combat any negative with" Raf pitches before he's cut off
"We could've buried this whole thing. Instead you had to have a memorial for the guy. We're at 50% capacity." Emilio scolds.
"Dad we're working on that." He says pointing at me.
"Clearly, I need to stick around to supervise things. Unfortunately, my schedule will not allow it so I brought in the next best thing" he says looking behind us.
We turn around to see Lachlan Moore. Well this is going to be interesting. Raf and Lachlan do not like each other.
Flashback
"Don't be so moody; Ibiza can wait. Plus my dad's about to give me the keys to the kingdom." Raf says walking in with a girl on his arm.
"Do you even work" she asks making me snicker.
"Real work that's not for me. My dad's whipping boy Lachlan and my best friend Eva get it done. Don't you guys?" He asks us.
" Ladies and gentlemen. It's been a long time coming but I would like to announce my appointment for senior VP of the Marcay Hotel Group. Lachlan Moore." He says and we all start clapping.
Rafael's face falls.
Present Time
"The Marbella is my hotel, okay? We run this place. I own 20% and she owns 15%." Raf says pointing towards me as I stay silent.
"Yes as part of my corporation. And I'm still the principal owner." Emilio looks back at Rafael
"I don't need someone overseeing me." Rafael says annoyed
"Think of it more as a collaboration, Rafael. After all, we'reallon the same team here." He says and walks away with Emilio to discuss something about the hotel.
Rafael walks off and I find it better to give him space.
I find Rafael later talking to Petra.
"Rafael,stop. Look I know. You’re stressed." Petra says before she gets cut off
"Of course I'm stressed I have Lachlan breathing down my neck." He replies
"OK so do something about it. Push through the expansion deal. Show your father that you have foresight and business sense" She says
"I agree if anything it will show your dad that he doesn't need Lachlan" I added
He looked at me screamed at Petra
"Enough Petra! It's none of your business"
He looked at me and left.
I walk along the bar and I receive a text from Mark. I completely forgot about him during all the hotel drama.
'I know you have been busy with the hotel and I heard about the murder and police investigations. How are you holding up?'
'Well it's hard.' I type back
'As soon as you're ready to. We need to talk. ' he texts and confuses me.
"In conclusion it would be foolish to ignore this expansion opportunity. The upsides are tremendous." Lachlan explains
"Any thoughts ?" Emilio asks
"Yes actually. What Lachlan's proposing completely fails to account for zoning ordinances and environmental impact. Under mine and Eva's proposal we can address these issues while maximizing tax incentive to tripleour revenue. " He says as he hands his father the file. "Please,turn your attention to the screen."
After the meeting
We are back in the Solano’s suite and celebrating.
"A toast. To watching Lachlan fumble his way through a proposal that you've been fine-tuning for weeks." Petra says
"No no no no to you,Petra I don't know how you do it. How did you get him to trust you?"
"He never suspected a thing" she gloats
"But it's a brilliant strategy. To make someone think you're allies until you get what you want. I mean" Raf says.
We all drink.
"So how long were you sleeping with Zaz, anyway?" Raf asks making our eyes widen. I figure I should let them have this conversation and get up
"Eva wait you should stay." He says making me sit back down.
"We're done Petra. But thank you for helping with Lachlan" he says and we walk out.
The next day
Rafael spent the night at my place in my guest room. He woke up in the middle of the night and went into the kitchen.
I am meeting Mark today for lunch.
We met at the restaurant and talked. Long story short I have a date.
