Chapter 34

Eva's Pov

I hate Rafael

Apparently he called Petra hormonal and for the past hour I've had to listen to her scream about it without stopping. Does he not know to never call a pregnant woman hormonal. Luckily Jane walked in stopping her rant and I got the hell out of there.

Jane reached out to me 10 minutes later saying we should plan her a baby shower and I could not agree more. Maybe she would calm down plus half the items she needs would be gifted to her so she wouldn't be confused.

Two days later Jane and I are helping Petra create a list of items to buy for her babies.

"That thing is huge." Petra says looking at the breast pump.

"I know but that is the best breast pump because it comes with an extra battery." Jane says

"Yeah but I won't need it." Petra says

"Oh, trust me. I forgot my battery and I was at this writers' retreat, and Rafael had to bring it to me, and it was this whole big thing-" Jane says before I cut her off

"I thought you forgot your pump?" I say and before Jane can respond Petra says

"No I won't be needing it because I'm not breast feeding." Petra says.

"Oh." Jane says

"I'm having two babies, Jane. It's a lot." Petra has feeling judged

"No I get that. I'm not judging." Jane says

"Oh. Felt like judging." Petra says.

"Sorry. Totally didn't mean that at all." Jane says

"Anyway... Um, Raf and I have this glider. We love it because it is so comfortable,especially if you're up long nights, feeding the baby—" Jane gets cut off again

"I'm not worried about late nights. I have a night nurse." Petra says

"Oh. Well, maybe she wants to sit in it." Jane tries to joke.

"I just don't like it. I think glider are ugly in general." Petra says

"Okay got it."

"So pacifiers?" I say knowing she needs pacifiers

"Yes, definitely pacifiers. How about those ones" Petra says

"Two for twelve dollars? No. That's ridiculous. Look. Five for ten." Jane says

"But don't you think there's a reason for the difference?" Petra asks

"They're trying to scam you." Jane says

"Or they're better." Petra argues

"Maybe." Jane says

"Definitely" Petra says

So they cannot agree on anything and Jane is planning her baby shower. This is going to be highly entertaining. So now Petra is complaining to Rafael.

"Judgy. Seriously, Jane's judgy. She made me feel bad for wanting the best things for our kids. And she's such a martyr. She has to do everything herself. Oil and water honestly." Petra finishes her rant.

"Enough, Petra. We just wanted to help." Raf says

"We?" Petra asks him

"Okay I might have told Jane you needed a little help." Raf says.

"I don't need help and if I do I have Eva." She says

"Look Jane is a mother I thought she could help more than Eva." He said

"You know I was also helping Jane when she was pregnant so if she know a lot, I know more." I say a little offended.

"I didn't mean--" Raf gets cut off by Petra scoffing and leaving and I follow.

The next day Jane walked into Petra's office.

"I'm in the middle of something." Petra tells her

"I'm sorry. It's just you haven't returned my calls or texts. I just wanted to to know if the tea sandwiches are a go. Kate Middleton's favourites." She said

"Jane, just spare me, okay?" Petra says

"What?" Jane asks

"I don't need your pity party." Petra says

"This is not a pity party." Jane says

"Look. I know that you and Rafael were plotting how to help me, okay. I should have realised it the way you were talking yesterday." Petra says and goes to her desk

"No. It wasn't like that. I mean we're close. That's all. We're raising a kid together. He mentions things." Jane said

"That's it?" Petra asks

"Of course." Jane replied a little confused

"Got it. Oh we kissed. Did he mention that?" Petra said. He didn't.

"No he didn't." Jane said

"But we did." Petra says

"Wait, is that what this is about? Do you think I wanna be with him?" Jane asks.

"Well, do you." Petra asks and I couldn't help but feel like she was asking me.

"No I don't." Jane said. Do I?

"Does he know that." Petra asks

"Of course" Jane said. No

It is the day of Petra's baby shower and Petra isn't here yet so I go up to her office to flush her out.

"Why aren't you downstairs?" I ask Petra.

"Thought I made myself clear. I didn't want a shower." She said

"No, no, you did not make that clear, and the shower is happening right now."  I say

"Well, I'm not going." Petra says

"You kinda have to, you're the only pregnant person here." I say

"I don't have to. I don't like Jane and I don't need her sympathy. I know she pities my screwed up family." She says and I cut her off

"This isn't because of your mother it's because of hers and partially mine. My mother died when I was young my father passed two years ago and I barely talk to any other relatives I have in Cuba and now it's just me my brother and my niece and I don't want that to happen to you. Lonely with two kids. These kids are Mateo's sisters they won't be lonely, neither will he and you will have a great relationship with Jane." I say in one breath

"Do I have to like her?" She asks

"She became family the second you inseminated yourself okay yes now let's go." I say and she agrees

That same night I walked upto Rafael's room and knocked on the door. I was thinking about what Petra said about being together and I want to.

"Hey I was actually about to call you I had something to run past you." He says as he opens the door

"What is it?" I ask

"I'm planning to get Jane back." He says and my heart drops. Of course it's Jane. He sees the look on my face and asks what's wrong. I tell him I'm fine as I try to push back the tears.
