Chapter 77

Eva's Pov

Rafael had gotten the files from storage on Luisa and there were a lot. No one knows where Luisa is. The deposition from when she inseminated Jane gave her a fresh point of view to work on. Luisa had given an account of what happened the night before the insemination and how Allison had cheated on her.

I was reading an account she had written and immediately called Raf

"Rafael?" I ask

"Yeah, are you okay?" He asks

"Yes but I'm reading the deposition, and Luisa's talking about her mother, and I remember my brother telling me that her mom lived out the rest of her life in this place with these glowing fish— Long something." I say

"I see a place in Florida called Longbourne." He said

"Maybe Luisa went to escape there too. She was always haunted by her mom." I say

We went to Longbourne the next day and found Luisa at the counter. We sat down with her.

"So how'd you find me?" She asks

"I thought you might've gone where your mom went." I say

"Look it wasn't us Luisa. We didn't set you up. We didn't know Carl was real. That was Anezka and Magda." Rafael says

"Stop. Just stop talking. That's the whole reason I came here, to get away from the hotel and the scheming and the police investigations, and Rose. To just get away from everything destructive in my life." She says

"How's it been." He asks

"Really good actually. I work the front desk, I read, I take walks. I'm sober. It's the healthiest I've been in a long time." She says

"I'm glad to hear that." I tell her

"So you just tracked me down to check on my emotional well-being... and to tell me you two are together?" She asks. She would always ask us if we were together yet.

Rafael takes my hand and we both smile at Luisa who's eyes widen

"Wait, seriously. I was kidding but you're together." She screams and we nod. "Finally!" She screamed and hugged me.

"But back to what you said. I've been trying to track down my birth parents. And I know you have the records from the orphanage." He said

"I used to. After what you did to me or what I thought you did to me, I destroyed them. But Rose knows though. You can talk to her. Just please don't tell her where I am." Luisa said

"I won't." Rafael said

"So you're really not here for the money then? At all?" Luisa asked

"No I'm not. I mean before you left, you know you said you wanted to give it back to me." Rafael said

"It's gone." She says

"What?" Rafael asks

"I realised money was the root of all my problems. No matter how screwed up things got, I can always fall back on the money and that warped me and all my relationships, so I just gave it away, all of it." She said

"Even the hotel shares?" Raf asks

"In a trust. Benefiting various charities. Ashrams, recovery centers, amphibian rescue groups. I found this organisation that helps resettle ferrets into the wild. Anyway the point is, hallelujah the money is gone."she said

We ended up chatting a bit more. I was really happy for her. She seemed better.

Rafael had gone to see Rose who was going to tell him about his biological parents in exchange for Luisa and he wouldn't budge. I was proud of him.

That night we would find out that the biopsy was positive. Xiomara had breast cancer.
