Chapter 73

Eva's Pov

"You guys were kissing does that mean you're getting married." The three year old asked

"No no no we're not getting married." Both Rafael and I said kind off panicking

"We are just exploring our feelings for one another and if it works out that's good and if it doesn't that's ok nothing is going to change for you sweetie." I say

"What about dad is this like Emma?" She asks

"Yes this is kind of like Emma." I say

"Ok." She says

That night in bed I can't sleep when suddenly I get a text

'Stop thinking of all the reasons it won't work. Is she asleep' Rafael texted

'Yeah she is.' I text back

'Just so I'm not confused that was a good kiss right?' He texts

'Yeah it was' I text

'I know there's a lot at stake. We'll take it slow and keep it on the down low.' He texts

The next morning I walk into my brothers house when Clara says

"Mommy and uncle Raf were exploring each other with kisses." She says and my brother looks at me wide eyed

"What?" He says as Rafael comes out of the room

"You kissed my sister." He said

"Yeah." Rafael said in a small voice

"Well, I feel like this is a good time to remind you that legally I can carry a gun" My brother said and I rolled my eyes.

"I'm sorry you guys kissed." Jane says coming out of my brother's room

"Yeah, but why are you here in my brother's bedroom." I say with a smirk as she blushed

"Don't worry I'm happy for you guys." I say breaking into a smile which made them smile.

"And as for us we are trying to figure things out. As we told this munchkin." Rafael says and picks up Clara as she squeals

I am working on new designs for the boutique when Rafael came up behind me and kissed my shoulder.

"What are you doing." He asks

"Well I was working on designs but then I got distracted." I say turning to look at him.

"Well since you are distracted let me take advantage of that and take you on a date." He says

"As much as I would love that. I'm on a deadline." I say

"I also knew you would say that so..." he trails off and holds up the bag in his hand.

For the next hour we are and talked and designed. Rafael also contributed to the sketches. He was helpful.

The next day I'm talking to Jane in the kitchen when Petra showed up

"Rafael is still mad at me." She says and I turn around

"Whoa! Personal space." I say and back up a bit

"Can you help me. I've apologised over and over." She says

"You left his sister in an institution when you knew she wasn't hallucinating." Jane says

"And I feel bad about that. He says he's not coming to brunch on Sunday. And you know brunches are sacred family time." She says

"Actually I think we should skip brunch for a bit." I say

"What?" She asks rhetorically in disbelief

"You just push people too far, Petra. And at a certain point they can't come back anymore." Jane says and we both leave

Rafael had asked me to come over to his new apartment. It was so cute and cozy. We ended up getting Chinese take out and talking the whole night.

Mateo had found out his mom was dating my brother and I was dating his father. Weirdly he was fine with it. Since he could sense his parents were great friends.

Clara still being young had gotten anxious and had a breakdown at school. Rafael and I had to make a decision

Rafael had a called me telling me I was right we should not head into a relationship. No. I'm not gonna just accept it this time. I ended up at his apartment and we started talking

"I'm scared. Scared that this is going to last, that I'm gonna be stuck in this tiny apartment where the hallway has a weird hotdog smell. And part of me has to admit that to you because... I don't want you to think I'm too dark." He says

"No hallway should smell like that. You have to be able to tell me the truth." I say

"I know. But I also know what you're going to say. Money doesn't matter." He says

"Seriously? You think I don't have big dreams for my life? You think I don't want my brand to be a multi-global chain and make loads of cash? And one for my brother, and a boat." I say

"A boat?" He asks

"In fact I'm designing superhero emblems on t-shirts to get there." I say

"Superheroes. Wow you are full of surprises." He says

"You need to get inspired. Give it time." He says

"I wish we had time." I say

"But we don't. Our kids need an answer. So are we in a place right now to be in a relationship?" He asked me

The next morning Petra dragged me and Clara to Sunday brunch at Jane's we all made up and had brunch without Rafael.

That night we sat down Mateo and Clara to explain things to them.

"Everything is so complicated. There are so many sides to consider, and we've thought about everything. And we made a decision." I say

"We are going back to being friends." Rafael finishes

They were both pretty disappointed. They liked the idea of them being siblings. We got in the car so I could drop Rafael to his apartment. As soon as we got in I asked him

"It's the right thing to do right?" I ask

"Absolutely." He says

We look at each other and we kiss.
