Chapter 21

Eva's Pov

It's been two weeks since Jane quit working at the Marbella. I still talk to her and currently I am on the phone with Lina trying to get Jane to go to her high school reunion.

"Eva, please tell Jane that she should go to the 5 year reunion." Lina tells me

"Jane, you should go to the 5 year reunion." I say in a sly tone.

"I can't, I'm on a tight schedule. Ten pages a day." Jane argues

"Can you tell her she has to go? Me and Eva are trying to convince her." Lina asks someone.

"To the reunion? I tried- she's crazy with this schedule." Xo answers slightly scoffing.

"You were supposed to give a speech, Jane." Lina argues

"I'm pretty sure the class of 2010 can live without my speech." Jane says

"Come on, Alex Mendez RSVP'd yes." Lina says. Who's Alex Mendez.

"So?" Jane asks.

"So you had a huge crush on him. And remember, you two were vibing at the graduation party?" Lina says.

"You two vibed? You didn't tell me." Xo says

"Because nothing happened. And I'm not looking to meet a guy." Jane says

"Jane give me one good reason why you don't want to go besides your schedule." I say.

"Stephanie Kovakovich, one more reason I shouldn't go." Jane says.

"Who?" I ask

"Jane's personal tormentor in high school who has since then dropped off of Instagram. Which means she looks terrible. Which means seeing her will make you feel better. Just like seeing all the teachers who worshipped you." Lina says and shows Jane their yearbook.

"Look this wasn't the triumphant return I was hoping to make, you know? I'm single, unemployed, pregnant. I'm not exactly accomplished." Jane says.

"First of all,you are going to have one of the best stories there."Lina says.

"And you're very accomplished. You graduated college, you wrote an episode for a telenovela, and you were offered a teaching job which you turned during to write your novel." Xo says

"All while being pregnant." I add

"There was a reason you were on the planning committee. Because you wanted to go to that reunion. So be proud of where you're at. I know I am." Xo finishes.

"You guys are so cheesy." Lina says making me hold back a laugh.

"Shut up, Lina, you're getting what you want. You guys are right. I'm overthinking. It'll be fun." Jane says. I suddenly get another phone call from Rafael and hang up on Lina. He asks me to come into his office.

"So... here is the situation. The Maracay board is calling a vote in Madrid. There's a big push to sell off the properties, settle the debt and dissolve the company. " Raf says

"Sounds reasonable." Luisa says

"It's not reasonable, Luisa. I'm gonna go there to change their mind. Dad had multiple offers through the years,and he turned them all down. He didn't want to sell his company— it was his legacy." Raf says

"Yeah that's a tough call." Juicy says from beside Luisa.

"You really think so?" Luisa asks "Because, to me it sounds like a no-brainer. We unload and divide the money. You keep the Marbella that's outside of the Maracay group." She explains.
