Eva's Pov

Rafael and I had been saving a bit and we saved enough for first and last weeks rent saving more than we needed. I decided not to use the money for the Marbella to save that for the kid's college funds and used all the money I was making from the boutiques.

We went upstairs to check it out and I could see our entire future in this house. I want this place. We should go to the flea market to check out some furniture. While we were there Mateo accidentally broke a clock worth 4000 dollars. So much for the apartment.

Rafael decided to sublet his apartment for a bit and move back into my brother's the only rule he had was not to have sex under his roof.

Rafael had a meeting with the contractor to try to get a job as a real estate agent. And check city permits.

If the city approves the plans he'll start getting paid. So much so that maybe we could afford a two bedroom.

Rafael took me out to the property site.

"Try to envision it. And don't look at the graffiti, or the trash, or... whatever that is" he says

"So where should I look?" I ask him and he grabbed my hand and ran to an empty field.

"Start here. We'd go modern and clean. 250 rooms, all with a private balcony. Saltwater pool. Cabanas. Outdoor bar." He says

"A spa?" I add

"With glass walls on one side looking out over the water. Can you see it?" He asks

"I can see it. You know what else I see? How excited you are. You have to to this. Just protect yourself. Make sure you have a good lawyer." I say and we head back

The next day Rafael had told me that Jane's Abuela spanked Mateo for reaching for the stove. Alba was raised differently and it's not how we want to raise our kids.

Nine weeks later and we're back to square one. We saved enough to pay off the clock.

Chase had called. The city permits are taking longer than expected. As much as six months long or a year. I told him to remember how excited he got in the lot. This was his dream.

"Okay where are you taking me?" I ask Rafael as soon as we step off the bus

"I went back to the lot like you said. And I realised something. The most important piece of real estate in my future isn't some big hotel. It's a one bedroom apartment with you. That's my dream. Which is why." He says and shows me the bus bench with his face on it.

"You took that real estate job?" I asked him

"It's a full-time position with a salary and good health insurance, which means I can support us both. I've already done the math. You don't have to overwork the vendors you can get them back to a shipment every two weeks. So you can still draw more designs. Let's bet on your dream, mine will come." He says and I kiss him

when I got a phone call from my brother. He heard from Rose. He didn't say why she said but it must've been huge.
