The length of a mans trust

" No. Giyuu, we have to talk and I can't ignore this any longer." She said sternly and was clearly upset. Giyuu was surprised, had something happened he wasn't aware of?

"Uh-you seem so serious?" Giyuu muttered, the look on her face didn't change, they were still in the same spot even after all the hashira including the master had left. "Why are you acting like you didn't just do anything wrong? You're horrible!" Shinobu shouted.

Giyuu began to realize how serious she was, "Hold on- what are you talking about? I haven't done anything!" Shinobu looked at him eyes wide.

"Are you really that ignorant? You offered to commit suicide..TO KIDS YOU DON'T KNOW! WHY ARE YOU OFFERING YOUR LIFE? TO A DEMON!" She shouted. Giyuu stared down at her but didn't say anything for a couple of seconds.

"I trust Tanjiro. I trust Nezuko...she won't eat anybody, it was just so they could accept her, so you could accept her too. I know she's not gonna eat anyone!" Giyuu said in defense. Shinobu scoffed, "and how do you know that? How are you so sure she's not eating someone right now? Why are you risking everyone's lives? WHY ARE YOU BEING SO SELFISH?"

"Selfish? I'm not the one that's being selfish, I'm giving these kids a chance to finally live. Tanjiro has no one else left besides his sister, if I can give him a chance to at least be happy I'll take it. I am not selfish whatsoever because I'm thinking about that boys happiness." Giyuu said, starting to get a little annoyed.

"wow...You think you're the hero in this situation? What about me?! Or-or Maki?! WHAT ABOUT THE FRIENDS YOU'RE GONNA LEAVE? WHY DO YOU TRUST THEM SO MUCH? You are being so selfish and ignorant, and I am through with it. You promised you wouldn't get yourself hurt and here you are offering yourself to death. If you loved me, or if that promise meant anything to you, then you will go back to the master and take back the letter and give nezuko over." Shinobu yelled

Giyuu stared her down, he's never seen her like this or say anything like this. Giyuu knew this wasn't her but he couldn't help but feel enraged. "If I loved you?  Don't do that. Don't even pull that card at all. I love you Shinobu but I am protecting these kids, I failed to save Tanjiros family and that burden will forever follow me. So no, I'm not gonna go back. If you don't like it then you can figure it out but im not leaving these kids alone."

"So you can leave me, the woman you love, the woman that has been with you through EVERYTHING, but you can't leave the kids you met for five minutes? Mhm, okay. Well, it's clear I can't change your mind Giyuu; But I am not gonna sit around while you gamble your life away. So I am done, we're done. You need to grow up, You don't get to play God, Giyuu, you're human you weren't gonna save that family and you don't get to play with your life. If you can't trust my words then I can't trust you with my feelings." Shinobu stated quietly.

"Why are you making so much out of nothing? It's my life to begin with! MY LIFE." Giyuu scoffed, "You're simply overreacting. Let's just go home and talk about this?" He tried leaning in for a kiss.

"No. I meant it, I am done. I am so done with you Giyuu. We are over, we're breaking up. How many ways do I have to tell you? I can't trust you anymore and it seems like you trust those kids enough to support you. Please don't make this harder and just stop." She pushed him off of her and walked away, she didn't look back she simply just kept walking.

He was at a loss of words, what was this feeling in his body? His brain? Heart? Stomach? He wasn't sure where he was feeling it but he felt it so heavy he held his head down the entire walk home. "Is this my fault? No- I'm helping Tanjiro...I'm helping him and his sister."

Giyuu was confused the entire way home, he wasn't himself and zoned out the entire way home where he didn't even realize he was walking in the rain and went way past his mansion. He decided to walk to his cabin after a while of just wandering around.

Once he got there he was surprised to see an unexpected guest, "Maki? What are you doing here?" Giyuu asked, She was clearly drinking and looked at him. "Giyuuu..just sit down. Shorty told me about your suicide or whatever..." she said while mixing up her words and slurring.

"It's not suicide...are you mad at me too?" He said ready to give up. "mmm no..? I don't know..drink with me!!" She said while still slurring and flopping around the couch. Giyuu was relieved that she wasn't mad at him, that at least he still had someone.

"She called me selfish...was she right, Maki?" He said looking into her eyes. She shakes her head, "Yuu, you tried protecting those kids, just like you tried protecting me. I'm not mad but she is reasonable. You're ready to leave us behind, why? You really are putting deep trust into these kids, but maybe you haven't thought straight. Is it Sabito? Is that why you feel the need to help these kids? Anyway, yeah it is selfish but I'm not mad just a little sad." She said like she was sober but immediately went back to drinking.

"She also broke up with me, what do I do? I'm feeling some type of way but I just don't know. I should probably give her time right? Why am I so confused and I was so harsh to her...but she wasn't understanding either so she should apologize to me right? What's the point anyway though, she's stubborn enough to not talk to me." He wouldn't stop muttering his feelings.

"That's what heartbreak feels like Yuu. That's what happens when you fall in love, but maybe take time on yourself, maybe you don't trust yourself either." She murmured, "here" she passed him the bottle and he took a sip.

"Aren't you supposed to be on missions?" He said her while taking more and more sips. "I need time to heal because I got a demon munching on my arm." She said while pulling down her shirt to show her arm.

He just stared at it, I mean what else was he gonna do now? "Hey..you think we can go on missions together? After me and Shinobu finish up our month...I need distractions." He finished up the bottle and by now was drunk.

"Mmm...sure I mean aren't I your tsugoku?" She giggled and he smiled back. It was quiet for a couple minutes but they continued drinking. No one talked and it was better like this. After 20 minutes Maki couldn't help but just stare at the man by her side.

He noticed but simply just stared back, "You said you needed distractions right, Giyuu?" She said softly while continuing to gaze at him. He nodded his head softly.

"Can you close your eyes?" She whispered, he followed and closed them, at first he was hesitant but slowly he relaxed. "Do you trust me..?" She continued whispering, she got a little closer.

Giyuu had an idea but he wasn't sure, his head was a mess he was a mess. "I do trust you." He whispered back, Maki let out an approving "hmph" and slowly leaned in.
