Albus

"Oh, hello." He smiled faintly, "Happy Birthday, Cannie. Fourteen already I see." He still wasn't smiling as bright as he usually would. It was duller than it should've been.

"Thank you, Uncle Harry." She returned a small grin.

"Where's mum?" I asked.

"She's with Ron." He inhaled a deep breath.

"Dad, what's going on?" I left Candice and walked ahead to him. He smiled weakly and shook his head. Candice rubbed my back and headed away to the basement, "Dad, please tell me."

"I don't know, Al." He inhaled a loud breath, removing his glasses and pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Where is she?"

He looked up, seeming drained but then at the ceiling as if composing himself. He seemed exhausted, and utterly helpless.

"Hold ups." He suggested with a broken, self loathing smirk, "My wife is in holding and I.."

"What?' I frowned, "Why? It's not like she's harmed anyone."

"It's complicated, Al."

"Well, dad, you're gonna have to untangle it in front of someone at some point. Might as well try with me." I frowned, crossing my arms, as if blocking his way from moving.

"Al, don't be stubborn."

"Dad, you're clearly exhausted and she is my mum. I'm worried." I hissed.

"Yeah, well you should've thought of that before you hurt her so bad this year!" He growled and I flinched. He always had a scary flare to his tone. One that was stern and would put any offender to shame. Though that was true, a drape of guilt suddenly reflected on his face and gulped the feeling of a tear coming in my head.

"I know, I hurt you. Her as well. Let me help. I've read every book about the Ministry law. Give me a chance, please. Maybe there is a loophole we could be missing or you could find one. Please, dad. Let me try at least."

"Al..." He placed a hand on my shoulder. It was big and warm and veins popped under his pale but a little tanned skin, "Son, I truly appreciate this but you're only fourteen..."

"Again, dad, I'm sorry and all due respect but, you can't really have the privilege to tell us about age appropriate tasks." I pursed my lips and touched with a scrunched nose. He pause and seemed to think for a bit.

"Fair enough." He nodded and dropped his head.

"They want to keep her at the Ministry for this full moon. See how she behaves." He had a rage building up on his face again.

"But full moon isn't up for another two weeks!" I was stunned. Mum stuck in that stupid hole for two weeks? That must've been the worst thing we could've ever heard.

"Really?" We heard and James walked around the corner of the stairs along with Lil.

"Is it true dad?" Lil asked. Dad shut his eyes in regret of them hearing it but then nodded.

"Oh." Lily's lips wobbled and James wiped a hand along his jaw.

"Well, we can't just leave her in there." It was Teddy who spoke, jogging down the steps, properly dressed in his black coat and pants. His blue hair styled and he seemed ready for work. Dad scratched his jaw through his beard and sat on the third last step. Lil went away to the dining room and all three of us stood in front of him. His fingers raked his head as he dropped it in his palm.
