"I'm leaving." I didn't know why I said that, standing by the door frame of his room. He was picking up a few books sprawled on the floor. I gulped hard at the image of him in that loose white shirt and jeans, he was so pale, it almost looked wonderful on him.
"O-Kay." He nodded.
That's it? Okay? No explaining why you did what you did to me today?
I could feel my teeth clenching and anger brewing further. Nodding, I simmered myself down by letting my nails dig into my palms.
Am I supposed to say something?
"Will you text me now?"
I looked up and he was smiling like a child.
"Will you?"
"Do you want me to?" I gulped.
"Yes. I'd like that very much." He chuckled and i looked away. Damn it! My face hurts!
"Fine, if you insist." I tapped my foot but then flinched when he collided with me, hugging me tight with arms around my shoulders.
"Please do." He moved back and grinned, "I really want to have another round of whiskeys with you."
"Is that all you want?" I asked.
"We'll see as the path goes." He beamed, "But let's start there?"
"Fine. Let's start with a round of whiskey."
He grinned again.
"Oh, stop that." Without thinking, I did what I usually did when his overly adorable smile irritated me. I pressed a hand on his mouth. He laughed. His voice vibrating in my skin, "If you're... if you transformed yesterday, does that mean you'll be doing it again in three weeks or so?"
He nodded.
"I know you won't be able to contact me when that happens, so I'll do it."
"Do what?" His head tilted.
"I'll call you whenever the dusk starts to end. Meaning, the moments during which you turn. Just answer everyday." I suggested and his brows drooped like a baby in awe.
"You'll do that... everyday?" He gulped, his neck so thin.
"Everyday." My hand moved on its own when I touched his earlobe but flinched away quickly, "Yeah." I gulped, "Take rest. And let me know when you feel better." I moved for the stairs and didn't have the strength to look back, however, like always, it was Jason who took the step and now I found him accompanying me down the stairs, "What, do you have something to say?" I asked.
"I have to say goodbye to Candice too." He reasoned and I nodded.
"Did you... like my parents?' I asked, unsure why I was doing that.
"I do. Your mum's so friendly. I didn't get to talk much with your dad." He pouted.
"My point is, you're welcome to my house as well. Just tell me whenever you'd like to come visit."
"For real?" He stopped at the steps and I was a couple below him.
"Yeah, what's the big deal?" I asked.
"You... you're okay with me being around your family?" He was so shocked. It took me a minute to realize the intention behind his surprise.
"I do not know what's the nature of your condition." I took the steps up so my volume was low, "Nor do I know how to deal with it. But I know that I'll be there with you. Your heart's in the right place. And I think that's all that matters."
