The Christmas break ended shortly after the awkward dinner at the Malfoys. The common room was empty by the time she walked downstairs. Malfoy was sitting on the long green couch, reading a newspaper. He looked up once he heard someone coming down from the girl's dormitory.
"Why are you up?" He asked, folding the newspaper and setting it down on his lap.
"I couldn't sleep." She shrugged, walking over to the couch, and sitting down next to him.
"Why are you awake?" She asked, pulling her feet up to her chest.
"I'm hanging out with Crabbe and Goyle-"
"Willingly?" Madeline asked, making him chuckle.
"My father insists on it." He said, Madeline shrugged as she glanced at the fireplace. Draco glanced between his newspaper and Madeline.
"They've been gone awhile," he said, standing up, and setting the newspaper on the couch.
"There probably going to get food." Madeline shrugged,
"I'm going to go find them." Draco told her, she nodded, as he rocked back and forth on his heels.
"Do you want to come with." He asked, she teared her eyes away from the fire and looked up at him, her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion.
"To look for them?" Malfoy nodded; Madeline shrugged.
"Well, alright." Draco smirked, as she stood up, fixing her long green flannel pants, that Daphne had gotten her for Christmas. They walked out silently, scanning the halls for Crabbe and Goyle.
"Are you sure you there not hiding from you?" Madeline teased, making Malfoy roll his eyes, unable to hide his smirk.
"Who would ever want to hide from me?" He asked,
"I would,"
"I don't see you running away right now." Draco laughed.
"That's cause your looking at me, when you turn away, I'll make a break for it." Madeline said, as they turned the corner, and saw three large figures.
"Oh, there they are." He said, as they strolled over to them.
"Crabbe. Goyle. Where have you been? Pigging out in the Great Hall all this time?" He asked,
"Why are you wearing glasses?" Madeline asked Goyle, his hand flew to the glasses that rested on his nose.
"Um-reading."
"Reading? I didn't know you could read," Malfoy said, before looking at Percy.
"And what are you doing down here, Weasley?"
"You want to show a bit more respect to a school prefect! I don't like your attitude!" Percy said, Malfoy chuckled.
"Come on, boys. Weasley think she's going to catch Slytherin's hair single-handed." Malfoy said, before the four walked back to the Slytherin common room. It was still empty by the time they came back inside, Draco and Madeline sat back down on the couch, Madeline tried not to notice how Malfoy sat so close there shoulders were almost touching. Draco picked up the newspaper, showing it to Crabbe and Goyle.
"Listen to this..." He said, Madeline peered at the newspaper, confused.
"'Arthur Weasley, Head of the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office, was today fined fifty Galleons for bewitching a Muggle car. "Weasley has brought the Ministry into disrepute," said Lucius Malfoy, a governor of Hogwarts. "He is clearly unfit to draw up our laws and his ridiculous Muggle Protection Act should be scrapped immediately."' Malfoy grinned as he looked up from the newspaper.
