Draco's promise to come back lingered in Madeline's mind, but she wasn't sure if he would anymore. It had been months since she last saw him or knew if he was okay. She unfolded the letter Daphne had managed to send her. At first her letters were almost every week, but as Hogwarts became worse and worse, her letters were less frequent. Madeline was lucky to get one a month at this point.

Dear Mum, (She called her Mum so the death eaters wouldn't be suspicious if they ever got a hold of her letters.)

Hogwarts is getting really really bad. Theo was tortured a couple days ago after he tried to stop the Carrow twins from torturing a first year. He was in the hospital wing for a couple days, but he got out last night. A lot of the students have started hiding, the death eaters can't find them anywhere. They don't come out for anything, even meals, no one knows where they've disappeared too. I miss you, and I miss Draco. I miss when me and my friends were just five kids hanging out in school, hiding in our common rooms, walking around Hogsmeade. We can never have that back-

"Princess Madeline, you're crying." Elizabeth said, Madeline looked up, staring at Elizabeth through the mirror. Elizabeth's belly was so large she waddled around Madeline as she got ready for the day. Madeline wanted her to take time off until the baby arrived but Elizabeth insisted, she was fine and could work.

"Am I?" Madeline asked, she didn't realize she had been crying until a tear slipped out, down her cheek, and landed on the paper. Madeline folded the paper, as Elizabeth took a tissue and whipped Madeline's tears.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm...fine. Just stressed." She said, setting the letter down on her dresser.

"Are you sure?"

"I'm..." She paused, staring at herself in the mirror. Guilt, she felt like she could see the waves of guilt circling her body, ugly and green. It was filling her lungs, choking her.

"I'm fine." Madeline whispered again; Elizabeth nodded hesitantly. She re-did Madeline's makeup and finished her hair, as the door opened, and her mother walked in. Elizabeth shakily tried to bow.

"You don't have to do that Elizabeth, your almost nine months permeant." Alexanderia said, rubbing Elizabeth's arm.

"Thank you, your majesty." Elizabeth grinned,

"I was just done here. I'll leave you two alone." Elizabeth said, she walked out of the room, shutting the door behind her.

"Did you need something Mum?" Madeline asked, standing up. She looked at her reflection in the mirror. The rims of her eyes were red but other than that she looked normal. Elizabeth had done her hair in the beautiful, blow-dried look she always did, her makeup was perfect like always, just like how she was supposed to look.

"Do I need something to talk to my daughter?" Alexanderia asked, she sat on Madeline's bed, as she turned around staring at her mother, leaned against the dresser.

"No but you never come into my room unless you want to talk."

"I do want to talk about you."

"Why?"

"Because you're not you."

"What the hell does that even mean Mum? I am me! I'm trying to be me as best as I can while I feel this horrible horrible guilt! I'm here pretending life is normal while my friends and the guy I love is out there fighting! They're fighting an actual war! Theo got tortured for helping a first year while I'm out here getting pampered. I don't even know how to draw my own bath because Elizabeth does it. They risk there lives, and the most I've done was manage not to die while the palace was attacked. The boy that I love is literally living with the monsters that caused this! And on top of all that I have to hide the fact that I'm engaged to someone else that I don't even know, so yes Mum I am a little different!" She shouted, slamming her hand on the dresser. The several perfume bottles and makeup products shook, but Madeline barley spared them a glance.

"I'm sorry Madeline, but this is our life. You have an important job in life, they don't. You have to be protected for the sake of our country."

"But...I need to protect my friends too! I should be out there helping them!" She shouted; Alexanderia shook her head.

"You can't! You are responsible for more than just four people; you are responsible for millions."

"So, the engagement is also for the sake of our country? Or how that just the cherry on the top of more guilt I need to carry."

"I'm sorry you're carrying this guilt with you Madeline, but when you grow up you will realize how important this is. How important you are." She said, Madeline swallowed the lump in her throat, blinking away her tears. She managed a nod, as her mother stood up, she rubbed Madeline's arms trying to be comforting, and kissed Madeline's forehead.
