"Please! Come on! Just let me go on rounds with someone else!" Madeline begged the head girl, Alison Montgomery a seventh year Ravenclaw in the Prefect's lounge. The girl sat behind her head girl desk, barley glancing at Madeline.

"I said no Ayer. I don't have time to rearrange the schedule, you should've asked me last week, even two days ago so I could find someone else who was willingly to work tonight but it's so short notice." Alison explained for the third time.

"I understand that he's your ex and you don't want to see him again all night, but I'm sorry I can't. There's no one available for tonight." Alison said, noticing Madeline's defeated face.

"No, I understand." Madeline looked at the clock noticing she was going to be late for her rounds.

"I better get going, I'll see you later Alison." Madeline said, Alison nodded waving goodbye to Madeline as she shut the door behind her. Madeline walked downstairs to the Slytherin common room where she suspected Draco was going to be waiting for her.

---

Draco stood excitedly waiting for Madeline to appear. He fiddled with the sleeve of his white button-down collared shirt, he told himself he was obviously not nervous, just excited for to finally see her. The Slytherin common room wall slid open, raveling Pansy, she looked up at Draco, her nose in the air, her arms crossed.

"Parkinson," She stepped out of the common room, the wall sliding shut behind her.

"You better not be getting any idea's tonight, Draco. I know I can't come along on your stupid little prefect's duty, but you better not forget what your father said about that little Mudblood." Pansy warned her voice sounding more serious than Draco had ever heard. Draco's hands tightened into a fist, trying to calm his breathing, as he stared at Parkinson.

"Don't worry Pansy, I don't have any plans of betraying my father or..." He walked towards her putting a hand on her cheek, trying to fight back every urge he had to take out his wand and curse every inch of her body.

"Or you," Pansy smiled at him.

"Your father will be very pleased to hear that when I owl him this week." She said, leaning up to kiss him on the cheek. She turned around, muttering the password, and the wall slid open, Parkinson stepped into the common room. She smiled at Draco, over her shoulder, one last time before the wall slid shut behind her.

Draco took out a handkerchief from his pocket, whipping his cheek, and hands before stuffing it back into his pocket, and ran a hand through his blond hair. He turned around once he heard Madeline's footsteps coming closer.

"Madeline," he said, turning around. Madeline looked up at him through her eyelashes, with a glowering expression on her face.

"Let's get this over with. I don't want to talk to you, I don't want you to try to talk to me. I want you to stay on the opposite side of the hall until midnight." Madeline said, Draco smiled at her.

"Whatever you want." She rolled her eyes at him, before turning around and starting their patrol. They were in charge of patrolling the south wings of Hogwarts, and Madeline was hoping it wouldn't take long so she could go back to ignoring him.

---

It had been an hour of complete silence, the noise of their feet hitting the floors was echoing down the halls, they had reached the sixth floor of Hogwarts, Madeline was patrolling faster than needed, she just wanted to head to bed and not have to see Draco until tomorrow. Madeline could feel Draco's eyes on her every few seconds, but she stared straight ahead looking at the next hallway that was once again empty.

"Madeline," Draco finally said,

"What?" She hissed, glancing at him.

"I need to talk to you," Draco said, he stopped walking. Madeline turned around, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Is it about prefects' duty?" She asked, Draco shook his head.

"No,"

"Then we have nothing to talk about." Draco grabbed her hand, just as she was about to start walking again. Her breath hitched as she felt Draco's hand on hers. She looked up at him between her eyelashes.

"Please just listen to me," he said, his gaze so intense, so determined that all she could do was nod. Without letting go of her hand, Draco looked around for an empty classroom, or broom closet. He turned the doorknob of the first door that he saw. He noticed it was a particularly large room, with nothing really in it. There were several bookcases lined up against the wall filled with books, and a green plush sofa.

"What is this place?" Madeline whispered,

"I'm not sure..." Draco answered,

"It's probably just an extra study area." Madeline said, Draco nodded, but right now he didn't care what room he was standing in. He turned around, facing Madeline, his hand still on hers.

"Draco, what do you want to talk about? What did you drag me in here for? Shouldn't we get back to prefect rounds?" She asked, looking down at their hands.

"I don't care about our prefects' rounds. No one's coming to look for us." Draco said, he rubbed his thumb across the back of her hand. Madeline tried not to be distracted by it.

"Madeline, you know you're the only girl-"

"Don't say that don't say that when you're with Pansy and didn't even send me a letter to tell me you're breaking up with me." Madeline whispered,

"I didn't have a choice, Madeline!" Draco shouted, she scrunched her eyebrows up confused, shaking her head at him.

"What are you talking about?" Draco took a deep breath, tilting his head back to look up at the ceiling.

"My father. He found out about us...he invited the Parkinsons over for dinner once and announced that I would like Parkinson to be my girlfriend of course she was over the moon and accepted with one rule that she would send him letters every week, his little spy, as I like to call her." Draco explained, Madeline stared at her, her mouth fell open in shock.

"You're saying that you're not actually with Pansy?"

"Did you ever think I was? I can barely stand the sight of her." Draco smirked, Madeline shrugged, shaking her head.

"I mean I was surprised...and I think I was hurt more than anything that I let it cloud my judgment." Draco smiled at her, his eyes crinkling in the corner, as he cupped her face, his forehead resting against hers.

"I can't believe you ever thought I would."

"Can I kiss you?"
