"To our newcomers, welcome! To our old hands — welcome back! There is a time for speech-making, but this isnot it. Tuck in!" Dumbledore said, Madeline could feel Draco's eyes on her. She had forced Theo, and Blaise to sit next to her, and across from her, so Draco had no chance of sitting anywhere near her.

Usually, Madeline would dig into her food without a second thought, but she didn't feel like eating tonight, especially since Parkinson wouldn't stop touching Draco. It shouldn't bother Madeline anymore, but she wanted to hit both of them over the head.

"Madeline you should eat something," Daphne said, she shrugged.

"I'm not hungry." She said, but all she wanted to do was curl up in bed, she couldn't do that just yet.

"Just a little," Daphne asked, Madeline shrugged cutting a small piece of her steak and biting into it for Daphne's sake.

"Well, now that we are all digesting another magnificent feast, I beg a few moments of your attentionfor the usual start-of-term notices. First-years ought to know that the Forest in thegrounds is out-of-bounds to students — and a few of our older students ought to know by now, too. Mr. Filch, the caretaker, has asked me, for what he tells me is the four-hundred-and-sixty-secondtime, to remind you all that magic is not permitted in corridors between classes, nor are a number of otherthings, all of which can be checked on the extensive list now fastened to Mr. Filch's office door."

"We have had two changes in staffing this year. We are very pleased to welcome back ProfessorGrubbly-Plank, who will be taking Care of Magical Creatures lessons; we are also delighted to introduceProfessor Umbridge, our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher." Dumbledore paused for a moment as the students applauded politely for Professor Umbridge.

"Tryouts for the house quidditch cup-" But Dumbledore paused again, glancing at Umbridge.

"Hem, hem." She said, standing up. Professor Dumbledore stared at her for a moment, looking taken aback before realizing she wanted to make a speech and went back to his chair.

"Thank you, Headmaster for those kind words of welcome." Umbridge said, before walking up to the podium. Madeline could barely pay attention to what Umbridge was saying, her voice was to annoying, her speech to long, or maybe she was just too angry at everything today.

Finally, Umbridge's speech was over, and Dumbledore stood up again, finishing his announcements, and then dismissing all the students for the rest of the night.

"Hey, who the girl who made prefect's this year?" Theo asked, Madeline's eyes widened, almost wanting to smack herself over the head. She had made prefect, and completely forgot about it. She was supposed to go to the prefect meeting but had completely forgot.

"I made prefect," She muttered,

"Draco made prefect," Daphne whispered to her.

"Of course, he did." Madeline muttered, as she stood up.

"First years! Over here!" Draco and Madeline shouted at the same time; she threw him an even glare. Draco looked at her apologetically, wishing for a moment alone.

"So, first years, I will show you to our common room. It's down in the dungeons." Madeline said.

"Don't be scared, it's not as bad as it sounds. Our common room is very nice. It's where your rooms will be, and where you can spend your free time with over house mates." Draco said, as they lead them downstairs, glancing at Madeline every few seconds.

"Our password is the same every time, you simply speak it into this wall, and it will slide open." Madeline said, she muttered the password, and the wall slid open. The first years all looked around the room sleepy and filled with excitement.

"The girls' rooms are to the right, boys are to the left. Your names are on the wall, and your bags will be already inside your room. Any questions?" Draco asked, a little girl raised her hand.

"Yes?"

"Do you have a crush on that girl?" She asked pointing to Madeline. Draco's eyebrows rose, his face shocked.

"What?"

"Do you have a crush on her? Because you keep looking at her every five seconds, but she doesn't look like she likes you very much." Draco glared at the girl, as Madeline tried to stop herself from laughing.

"Everyone's dismissed!" Draco shouted, the first years hurried upstairs at his shout, a couple giggling on there way up. It took all of thirty seconds for them to be alone, Draco turned to Madeline.

"Madeline please-"

"Not now Draco, I don't want to talk."

"Please let me explain!" Draco said, trying to grab his arm but Madeline stepped away.

"I don't want to talk!" She repeated, not wanting to be alone with him for another second, she stormed upstairs.
