You sit quietly at a table and try not to catch anyone's attention. It's been 8 months since it ended between you and him. He was the one that convinced you all guys are jerks. That you were worthless and not worthy of a relationship. "Excuse me are you here by yourself?" A tall guy with green eyes asks, placing a hand on the back of the seat across from you.
"Yes, but I'm leaving." You stand quickly and drain your mug. "Enjoy the table." You tell him before you hurry off. Looking out the window you see that it's still pouring. You scold yourself for forgetting an umbrella. Heading out the door you calculate how far you have to walk before you get home. Someone holds the glass kanal open and you turn to thank them. You see a guy fighting with his umbrella held in one hand while he holds the door open for several people.
"Thank you." You say gratefully, standing under the overhang. You are the only one to thank him.
"No problem... Hey I can't get this closed, think you can help?" You take the umbrella and he looks at you. His blue eyes seem clearer than clear and his smile is genuine but troubled.
"Bad day?" You ask.
"Guess you could say that." He replies carefully.
"Well... I'm sorry... Here you go." You hand him the closed umbrella.
"Thanks. Hey don't you have one?" He looks around.
"No, afraid I forgot mine." You shrug.
"In that case take mine."
"No I couldn't."
"It's fine here." He gives it to you and before you can say anything he disappears inside.
You open the just closed umbrella and walk out into the rain. When you get home you notice a name written at the bottom of the handle. 'Hunter'
Hunter clouds your brain and thoughts for days after that rainy day's meeting. You wonder if you're going to see him again.
Two weeks later, you are heading to the coffee shop again and you have Hunter's umbrella high above your head.
You get under the awning and you hear a familiar voice, "It's pouring ain't it."
You turn to look at the person seeing a drenched Hunter. "I guess so for someone who's umbrella got stolen."
You smile and he looks at you, eyes widening. "Oh hello again."
"I guess I can finally return this umbrella but it's my fault you're drenched, how about I buy you coffee?"
He smiles, "You don't have to do that."
"I know...but I want to." You close the umbrella and place it in the spot for umbrellas by the door.
"So my name is-"
"Hunter. Nice to meet you." You extend your hand to him and he takes it with a look of surprise. "Sorry... It was on the umbrella."
"Oh!" He laughs and pulls the hood down on his hoodie. He wears a black billed cap and suddenly he falls into place. "I thought you recognized me."
"Just did." You squeak out. Your breaths come fast. "Oh please, don't tell me the rain hurt your voice or get you sick. I would feel just awful if-"
"Don't worry about it. I'm fit as a fiddle." The analogy makes you giggle. "I've always wanted to hear you play the fiddle." You confess.
"Well then, I might just have to arrange for that." He winks. "So, tell me a little about yourself."
You try to collect your thoughts and are interrupted when the cashier asks what you would like. But when you take the table in the corner he asks again.
