Weeks turn into months of careful planning for the wedding of your dreams. One where you not only will be able to say your vows but one where you will be able to walk down the aisle to meet your husband to be. That was, until you got the phone call.
Stepping into the ICU was a nightmare, asking every nurse and Doctor you saw if they knew of the location of your fiancé, if they knew where Hunter was. Finally a kind looking nurse takes pity on you, as she's leading you to his room you try to grill her for information. He was in a car accident, seemed that he caused it, no, no one was badly hurt... But they think Hunter had a stroke. Suddenly you feel mute again, your body grows numb as she stops in front of a door with the name 'Hayes' scrawled quickly but neatly on a whiteboard right beside it.
the nurse opens the door and you can see Hunter laying in the bed with the machines beeping echoing through the room. The nurse let's you in and then shuts the door behind you. You bite your lip seeing Hunter looking away from you. You walk over to him slowly and he looks at you. "(Y/n).." you tear up and hurry to him, sitting in the chair and taking his hand.
"Oh Hunter!" You sniffle, kissing his hand, "Thank goodness you're okay."
"I'm not okay, (Y/n)." You frown, "I can't feel my legs."
"B-but... You'll get better. They'll fix you and you'll be okay and just like you were.. Just like with me." You start to cry and feel angry at yourself for it. Hunter needs you to be strong more than ever right now. Yet, it's his hand that lays on your head as you weep at his bedside, his voice whispering soothing words in your ears. Things have been so hard for so long.. You thought this was where the good was supposed to begin.
"Shh, (y/n)... Let's see what they find before we fall to pieces, okay? Can you try... For me?" You look up into his crystal blue, clear eyes and nod, taking his hand and squeezing it gently. You remember the most important sliver lining in this dark thunder cloud, Hunter's heart still beats. He still breaths. And he's here. With you. Come what may.
You wait for the doctor with Hunter, trying to put your mind off everything, well at least Hunter is trying to. "Darling, everything will be alright." He keeps telling you though you can't think the same. You know how the road you've walked has been. Full of hard and painful things to face. You wouldn't wish that on anyone, especially Hunter. He brings your hand to his lips, "Darling, quit worrying." You can't. That's impossible for you to do. You hear the door open and sit up straight.
"So... You don't think ever get full use of my legs?" Hunter's voice sounds hollow as he calmly talks with the Doctor, but you can see the walls of strength staring to break down. "You never know son. We'll get you in therapy as soon as you are able." He turns to go but Hunter stops him with one last question.
"Is the other driver okay?"
He turns and nods, "barely a scratch. She'll be discharged soon."
After he leaves Hunter caves in, sobbing into his fists, he just can't take it anymore.
"Shh... I know love..." You are quick to reach for him, to hold tight to him and kiss his head, tears threatening to spill down your cheeks, "I know."
You hold tight to him, "Everything's going to be okay Hunter.."
"(Y/n), I won't be able to stand on stage! I won't be able to tour! I can't even stand for our wedding!" He shouts angrily and you move back.
"Hunter.." "Just go.."
"Hunter-"
"Go!" He looks away and you frown, heading for the door.
