You wake up from your nightmare with a bang as you fall out of bed and immediately start sobbing on the floor. There is so much pain! A moment later your mom bursts through the door and throws on the light.

"Honey, what happened? Are you okay?"

You squint at where your elbow already has turned black and blue, your leg feels like it's about to fall off from the knee down. You must have hit it pretty hard falling.

"Mom, seriously there is something wrong with me." You inform her through your tears. "See, this bruise hasn't even healed yet and I'm getting a bruise over it. I'm in pain, I don't know what it is but I'm scared." Your sobs cut off your breathing and your mother kneels next to you, hugging you to her.

"Okay, I'll take you to the doctor first thing in the morning."

You nod and look over at your rose colored formal hanging on your closet door, it brings you some small amount of comfort. Prom is coming and you know exactly what to expect. Hunter and you already made the plans.

Your mom gets you into the car and you're scared. You're going to the doctor and like he knows, Hunter keeps texting you and you finally answer. 'I'm going to the doctor..' He texts you back and you can feel how worried he is and he keeps asking if you're okay and you are on the edge of crying. You get inside at the doctors and you and your mom and dad wait to see the doctor.

You hear the door open and Hunter walks in and over to you. "(Y/n).." he pulls you in for a hug. "You'll be okay.." At least you have him and your parents as a support team.

Once they bring you back and examine you they decide to admit you and run tests. It's an endless barrage of needles and scans, it exhausts you far faster than it should. That coupled with the fear from not knowing what's wrong. A week later you sit in a meeting with the doctor and your parents. Hunter sits in the waiting room, waiting on your text. Numbers and facts fly by and suddenly your mom gasps, you were busy thinking about Hunter, your rose colored dress, trying to find positive in your fear and now it seems like you've missed something. "Wait what?" You ask, completely freaked.

The doctor says it again but only one word sticks. "Cancer."

You swallow hard and find yourself texting Hunter that same word. 'I've got cancer ...' you see he reads the message and the moment you walk into the waiting room, Hunter stands quickly and rushes to your side, pulling you into an embrace. It's then you break down and cry. He kisses your head softly and speaks to your parents in a soft voice. You held tight to him and like every cancer patient before you, you ask "Why me?"

"Hunter, I understand if you don't want to take me to the dance anymore." You sigh over the phone. It's been a week since you've even felt good enough to leave the house. And you haven't been up for visitors, especially not now. You bite back tears, he can't know what's wrong, you've put him through so much.

"Don't be crazy (y/n), if I don't go with you then I'm not going." He sounds firm.

"Hunter really... I can't."

"Can I come over? Can we talk about this?"

"No!" You reply quickly. I'm too tired, I'll talk to you later." You hang up before he can answer. "MoOoOom!" You call, "I need a bag!"

Treatment is going well. You remind yourself of this as you gather your hair up off of your pillow. Then you bravely march into the kitchen to ask your mom to buzz your head. Fighting tears each step of the way.

You touch your head in the mirror as you look at your appearance. You have tears in your eyes and you hear a voice floating up the stairs from the door. "Hey, Mrs. (L/n)..can I see (Y/n)?" You hear your mom say of course and you hear his footsteps on the stairs and he calls out your name and you find your voice.
