You don't normally go out like this. Friday night, friends busy, no date. But tonight you didn't feel like being alone. Sure you could have curled up with a bucket of ice cream and your favorite movie while you snuggled under a warm blanket in your pj's, but you got all dressed up and decided to go downtown to a bar you haven't been to before. Maybe it would be fun, you thought.
You sit at the bar and twirl the toothpick in your drink and sigh, the music isn't even that good and no one has acknowledged you any more than bumping into you and the bartender getting your drink order. Why did you think this was a good idea? You think about leaving, there's still time for your movie and- "hello there."
You turn and see the guy who just filled the seat next to you.
"You look like you could use a friend." He smiles and you stare, a little dumbstruck. He's not trying to pick you up and he has a nice smile.
"Hi, I'm (y/n)."
"Hunter." He extends his hand and you smile as you shake it. "Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you." You smile softly and look down at your drink.
"This not your scene?"
You look up at him and nod, "Yeah, I'm more the one to be at home curled up with Ben and Jerry and a nice movie."
He nods, "Yeah, I hear you. I feel like that myself sometimes. Though this isn't my scene either, my friend Sam thought I should get out more. I get out plenty." He takes a sip of his beer and you giggle.
"Oh, what does Hunter do for 'getting out more'?"
He laughs, "Travel.."
"Oh?" You smile, "Yeah, singer here and you?" He smiles with a sparkle in his eyes.
Wait a second... You squint in the dim light and come to a shocking realization. No wonder this isn't his scene, he's... He's... "Hunter Hayes?"
"Yep that's me."
As a reflex you turn and down the rest of your drink, trying to get over the shock. This makes you start coughing in pain as the liquid shoots down the wrong tube.
Hunter's hand thuds against your back, helping you to get control of your breathing.
"Sorry." You rasp out and he laughs.
"No, you're okay. Let me buy you another drink." You turn and look at him wide eyed, is this really happening?
"Really, I insist."
"Okay."
He orders for you after asking what you want and then chuckles to himself, "funniest reaction I've gotten in a while."
"Glad I'm good for amusement." You mumble, staring at your feet.
Hunter puts his hand on yours, "Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to embarrass you, truly." You lift your head and lock eyes, "You okay?"
You nod and sigh, "I'm sorry that probably was the worst impression ever."
He chuckles and shakes his head, "Not at all. Not at all."
You start to giggle and take a sip of your drink, "I swear I've never ever done that before."
He nods, "Alright, I think I believe you." He winks and it makes you laugh.
Sitting there you actually start to have a good time. Hunter jokes and laughs right along with you but he can also be serious. You have to lean forward in your seat when he speaks passionately because his voice is hard to hear above the din from the rest of the establishment. Hunter asks you a question and you are pondering your reply when you feel a hand on your shoulder, "buy you a drink?"
