"I don't want a new hat!" Hunter protests as you shove a blue beanie on his head.
"Too bad, the black cap is old and not just in age." The hat is ripped from his head, your fingers close over the fabric and you look back at the choices in the store, not a good fit.
"Hey you okay?"
Great, Hunter can probably see your hands shake and the worry spread across your face. "Yeah l'm fine." You're such a liar. This is the first assignment you've been trusted with on your own and to top it off, you've always had a crush on Hunter but you've never been able to say more than one sentence to him. "What about this one?" You whip the hat around and the bill connects with his nose, when did he step closer? "Hunter, I'm sorry!"
He laughs it off, "It wouldn't be the first time. I shouldn't have been standing so close. Plus, that's not me."
You sigh exasperated, "Hunter at this rate, we won't find you a new hat."
He laughs, "And I told you, I don't need a new hat!"
"Yes, you do! Come on, please just get a new hat." He walks, looking at hats. You sigh and watch him. Can't he choose a hat and can you not hurt the man you have the biggest crush on?
Half an hour later you drag him into yet another store, almost literally. Your patience is wearing thin and you just want something to eat already, it's far past lunch. Hunter smirks as your stomach rumbles. "Last store, 'we go big or we go back home.'" You retort to his raised eyebrow.
"Can I pick home now?"
"No, seriously! I finally get an assignment from Betsy that I can do on my own and I get all excited and all it is is dragging your stubborn attitude around to several different stores! This is not how I wanted to spend a Saturday afternoon!" You snap and he looks taken aback. You know you should apologize but instead you walk away and start looking around, feeling both angry and frightened, what must he think of you now?
You get further away from him and finally sit down, putting your head in your hands. What could he possibly be thinking? You feel scared that you're going to lose your job potentially because you just blew up at your client..not to mention the crush you have on him. You groan, Betsy is gonna give you an earful. This is supposed to be an easy task..but it's proving not so. You feel someone sit beside you and you don't look up. You might as well get your bags packed when you get back on the bus.
"(Y/n), I'm sorry... I didn't mean to be so..."
"Stubborn? Hard headed? Bratty?" The words tumble out of your mouth and you close your lips tightly to contain the ugly reply. 10 seconds too late.
He chuckles and leans against your shoulder in a friendly way and you tense up. His laughter abruptly stops. "(Y/n)... Is that really what you think of me?"
"Um..." You search for an answer that makes sense but the question was completely unexpected.
"(Y/n) please look at me."
Slowly you take your hands away from your face and turn to look at him. Maybe if you apologize he will forgive your outburst. "Hunter, I'm sor-"
"No, is that what you think of me?"
"Uh...bratty just right now. The other two you're always." You murmur as a half joke, half truth. You look down and sigh. "Should I expect to pack my bags when I get back on the bus?" It slips through your lips before you can stop it. You've hurt, insulted, blew up in front of your client/crush. You're having a wonderful day aren't you. You sigh and rub your face. Too many wrong things happening today. Today is just not your day.
