No. No no no no no. The night started out normal, you had gotten a phone call earlier that day from your best friend Hunter. He asked if you wanted to go out with him and his girlfriend tonight and you had been too excited and happy to say yes. Your last relationship had crashed and burned earlier this month and you'd been feeling a little overlooked and lonely. Tonight sounded perfect, and it was... Until Hunter and his girlfriend had started to argue. Now you sit, alone at a table while they 'went outside to talk it out and cool off' you know they've been having problems but this is the first time you've seen them disagree like this firsthand. You try not to stare at the door at the front of the restaurant, waiting for them to come back and for it all to be normal again. Honestly, you're not sure what they are even fighting about.

You see Hunter come in, his hands had been through his hair and he sighs when he sits down. "Hunter..?" He puts on a smile and you frown. "Are you okay?" You put your hand over his that's across the table. He shakes his head and you sigh, "What happened?"

"Fight..I think this is the last of our relationship. We always argue and it's over the same thing.."

"What thing..?" You say softly and he shakes his head.

"It's not important."

You wish Hunter would just open up about whatever it was that they fought about. Not that it's any of your business, but as Hunter grabbed the dessert menu, insisting he was fine and had promised you anything on the menu and that it included something sweet to end the menu, you catch a pained glint in his eye. If he'd just open up he'd feel better, he always did. Ever since you first got to know Hunter he was closed and private. He let things ear away at him until he was unbearable, he tore himself down and it hurt to see. When he started talking over things with you he got better. "Hunter...?" You try drawing him out, voice quiet for the noise of the diners around you.

"Not now (y/n), please." You sigh and finally pick your meal and dessert to Hunter's delight and he orders for the both of you. He starts talking about you, "So what's up with you?"

"Ah same ol', same ol'. "

He smiles, "Sorry I haven't been around much."

"No I get it you're busy.."

"(Y/n), you're my best friend it doesn't matter if I had been busy, I should have made time for you."

"Really Hunter, ever since I broke up with (y/ex/n) I've been burying myself in so much work that i really haven't had time to think, much less want to recreate." This is a lie, you've been bored out of your mind and so hurt by how quick and messy things ended that you've been in a deep funk ever since. In truth, you wanted to go talk to Hunter about everything but it never seemed right. Silently you wish for him to have an easy time with this break up. But the crease in his brow shows that he's already starting to overthink things. Poor Hunter. Maybe since you're both in the same situation now you can give him some support, after all, it is Hunter.

The dinner finally feels normal..ish after a while and you're laughing and having a good time by the time the check comes to the table. You both reach for it. "(Y/n).."

"Hunter.."

"I'm getting the check because I made the night horrible because of the fight and the breakup."

"And I'm getting it because of that too..Hunter please." You give him the puppy dog eyes because you know it is one of his weaknesses.
