You call Hunter in a state of shock and fear. Your ex started calling this afternoon and now things are getting weird. He's been upset and he just threatened to come over, things didn't end well between you two. You don't want to be by yourself, you grab your keys and fidget with them, checking to make sure your doors are locked for the 10th time.
"Hello." Hunter finally answers.
"Hi, sorry I'm calling so late."
"It's fine, what's up?"
"I'm freaking out a bit, he called again and now I think he might be coming here."
"Hold on, I'm coming over."
"No, Hunter you don't have to."
"No I'm on my way." Hunter's voice sounds firm.
You breathe a sigh of relief as you hang up the phone. Hunter's the one friend you can always count on when things are going wrong.
You hear a knock at the door, you look out and see Hunter. You quickly unlock the door and let him inside, locking the door back. "Thank God you're here, I'm so scared."
He hugs you, "He won't hurt you, I won't let him get that far, (y/n)."
You sigh, feeling safe in Hunter's arms. You hear a car in the drive and jump as you hear your ex's voice and him banging on the door. You bury your face in Hunter's chest.
"Come on." Hunter pulls you away from the door and the windows.
"He blames me..." You stammer as you hear him start to pound on the door.
"For what?"
"For everything, for..." You can't continue, he has started swearing and yelling.
"Just ignore him." Hunter tells you, settling down on the floor with you, patting your head, which is hung low. "I remember the break up, it wasn't your fault."
You remember how he hit you after the last fight, how you called Hunter to pick you up after he left you stranded, how Hunter had a murderous look in his eye upon seeing your black and blue, swollen face. You start to cry.
"Hey, let's talk about something else." "Like what?"
"Well,"
Suddenly there's a loud crash, the sound of broken glass.
You scream and cover your head with your arms. Cold air blasts in from the smashed window right next to the door.
Hunter pulls out his phone, dialing 911. You look at him with panic on your face, that'll make him even more angry, especially if he's drunk.
"It's time to get the police involved." Hunter says decidedly.
You stand and take Hunter's hand, moving upstairs as he's on the phone with the dispatcher telling them about your situation. You can hear your ex in the living room getting muffled as you move upstairs further from him and his voice. Hunter squeezes your hand as you enter your room. You shut the door and lock it as you start to cry. Hunter takes you into his arms murmuring comforting things.
"Hunter.."
"He won't hurt you. He won't." He says like a promise to himself to protect you. He's like your guardian angel.
He stops mid sentence as your ex bangs on your door, "Oh (y/n), come open the door. I know pretty boy is in there, he's going to get it too."
You hold yourself tighter to Hunter, the thought of him getting hurt for you makes tears come to your eyes. He means so much to you, he's the one you've always wanted to be with, though he wouldn't like you. You have so much baggage, like the guy banging on the door. Hunter holds you close as the door is knocked down and you scream, closing your eyes tightly. 'Save us, please save us.' You silently pray.
"The police said they are 5 minutes away." Hunter says calmly.
After 2 minutes it is clear that the door is not going to hold. You watch as Hunter pushes your dresser over to the door. Hunter goes to your closet door and opens it, looking inside.
"Come on." He gestures to you.
You sit, frozen.
Hunter pulls you off the bed and pushes you in.
"No, Hunter, there's no room."
"I know." He shuts the door, encasing you in black.
"Hunter!" You try to open the door but he must have jammed the desk chair under the knob, it won't budge.
You hear a loud explosion and several loud shouts. You slam against the door, it doesn't move at all. He must be in the room, you hear something snap and a muffled groan. It is impossible to tell what is happening, what noises are coming from what person.
After what seems like an eternity you hear sirens.
Then you hear the police yelling in your house. You feel dizzy from lack of air. The noises have stopped now. You pound on the door, eyes burning with tears, you can't think of anything but Hunter. Is he okay?
The door flys open and you stumble into an officer's arms.
"Hunter? Hunter? Where's Hunter?" You say quickly the officer leads you out of the room and downstairs, talking about Hunter being outside. Is he hurt, you think to yourself. You'll never forgive yourself if Hunter's hurt because of you. You're sat down on the porch, seeing cruisers and an ambulance. Your heart speeds up and you're breathing hard, you're having a panic attack.
Someone sits beside you, putting a blanket across your shoulders, "You're okay, calm down. Calm down." You don't look at the person and they make you look at them.
"Oh my God, Hunter!" You throw your arms around him, "I was so worried."
"I'm okay, baby, I'm okay." You didn't care about how or anything, Hunter was okay.
"I love you." You blurt out before you can stop it.
You blush and watch him, he's got a big grin on his face, "I love you too." He presses his lips so gently on your lips that it was almost impossible, you smile.
"I love you, Hunter Easton Hayes." He chuckles, "I love you, (y/f/n)." Then you thought it couldn't been better to hear, you were wrong. The best time you heard it was on your wedding day.
