You and your friends were standing outside the arena. A lot of things have changed since you were in high school and not many people knew that you knew the guy who was the main act tonight. Hunter Hayes. He was one of your closest friends and one who stood up for you from the bullies. You were mute, but not permanently. After a brutal accident when you were six, you never spoke again. The little boy who saved you, well that was Hunter too. You sighed and your group started inside. You didn't care if he saw you and knew who you were. You just had to see him. It had been too long and your heart won over your head.
Being in crowded and tight spaces always scared you. It was different being separated from everyone else when you couldn't just ask others for help or call out to your friends. One of them though, her nickname was 'reader' since she interpreted your signing to anyone who you talked to. As long as she was there you felt calmer. "Come on! We've got to get in front!" She yelled back at you and you flashed her a grin. Soon you found yourself up at the front right of the stage and the voice around you made your smile grow wider, 'come on Hunter its showtime' you thought.
You hear the noise getting louder and grin as he runs onto the stage as the music starts, hearing the cheers around you. It's very different from years ago. You could remember him talking about being on a stage like this with a huge crowd around him cheering him on. You glad you were here to finally see it. He interacts with the crowd and you hoped to be just another face he'd see. You fell in love with him and he didn't need someone who was mute. He didn't need the burden of you, he deserved better. Then his eyes landed on you.
The second your eyes locked his voice wavered, or maybe it was just your imagination. With the crowd singing along to his songs with his words you were mouthing right along and for the first time you felt like you were singing along, really singing. Maybe that's why Hunter's eyebrows shot up on his forehead and he seemed to have a mixed reaction of shock, surprise, and then excitement on his face. He straightened up from reaching for hands and pointed at you with a wink, singing as if just to you for a second.
You blush and your friends who stand beside you look shocked but you pay no attention. They'd never believe you and Hunter were friends, that's why you never told them. It's now you wish you could talk to tell him how much you've really missed his presence. You grin as the song ends and it goes back to come back to him standing with the mic, about to speak as cheers fill the auditorium.
"So... How's everyone doing tonight???" The crowd screamed and you clapped as loud as you could and grinning as wide as your mouth would allow. "Awesome! I'm so grateful to be here tonight! Now, tonight is kind of a special night and so I'm gonna save Invisible for last... Hope you don't mind."
Special? You looked up at him as he seemed to search through the crowd until he finds you. Special... Could it be the fact that you were there? No it couldn't be...
He smiles at you and the concert goes on with his eyes always finding yours. He moves over to your end of the stage to the piano and you look up at him as he sits down in front of you. You put your hand up as your friends tell you to and he reaches and takes your hand. It makes goosebumps rise up and then you feel the others squeezing against you to reach him, making it ruin your moment as your hand falls from his and you feel like you're gonna fall. Hunter finds your hand again, holding onto it as you steady yourself. "You okay?" He mouths and you nod, squeezing your hand.
When he lets go you draw your hand back and he smiles, drawing his attention to encompass the rest of the audience. "Thank ya'll for such an amazing night! You're all awesome and the energy in here is crazy! So let me just slow it down for a minute and leave you with something to think about as you head home."
