Jeanas pov

I walked into the main part of the building, Jackie leading me. I hold tightly onto the stuffed bear my mom gave to me when I was 3.

There was lots of screaming and crying in one room in the hall. The room she unlocks is right across from it. It has a sign on it saying 'ages 10-16.'

"Home sweet home!" Jackie says excitedly, as I walk in. I frown. The walls are boring and white like in my old house. The light is faded and almost dead. There's nothing but some beds and a closet.

"Choose a bed." She says, walking around to them and patting the ratchet sheets.

I don't move.

She gestures me over. "Go on now, choose a bed."

I stand there and look at the floor, still and quiet. She sighs and walks over, kneeling down to my size.

"Honey, I know you don't want to be here, I know. But I want to help you and I want to be your friend. Please just don't be shy and choose a bed."

I stare up at her and nod. She smiles and stands to her feet. I walk over to the end bed and put my bag on it.

She smiles and claps her hands together. "Yay!"

I smile weakly.

"now just ask me if you need anything. I'll be out at my desk just come on out whenever."

She waddles out of the room and I stand there staring at the blank walls. There's a single window with a small bit of sunshine peering through. The same amount of hope I have.
