After lunch, I was still excited as I could ever be. This school is awesome! My schedule doesn't say who all the teachers are, but I'm sure their all friendly like the first ones I've met so far.
I walked into the classroom with Jeana and sat down in my desk. Everyone was talking loudly until the teacher came in, because I guess that's what happens before all classes.
I leaned over to Jeana. "When is the teacher go-"
I was cut off by a huge, loud noise that made me jump. I looked at the door to see an old lady holding a meter stick against the door. "You guys are being loud!! I can hear you from across the hall!!" She screamed.
The whole class went silent. Everyone just sighed but I was in shock. Jeana whispered to me. "I should have warned you about her..."
I gulped and watched the lady walk across the room. She had medium, brown hair that was knotty and looked bad, glasses, an old face, and a bad wardrobe. In other words, this wasn't a lady that you would want to be friends with.
She sighed loudly. "I don't want to be mean, but sometimes you guys make me mean. And now I look like the bad guy."
Her eyes darted around the room as she spoke and once they landed on me, I instantly looked away. She came right up next to my desk.
"Who are you?" She asked.
I swallowed and looked up at her. "Ma-Maya."
"Are you new?" She asked, already knowing the answer.
"Y-yes." I stuttered.
She scoffed. "Stop stuttering. Are you doing that on purpose?"
I shook my head no, and decided to stay quiet. She titled her head, still eyeing me. "Hmm."
I looked away because I felt awkward. "This is year 8 social studies. I except good things from you, child." She said, walking away. I looked at Jeana who looks like she is hiding in a laugh.
"Oh, by the way." She started. "My name is Ms. Rottenburg."
I tried as best as I could to hide my smile and I nodded in response.
"Get out your books." The class obeyed her order and turned to a page.
"Ms... Rottenburg..?"
She looked over at me. "What?"
"I don't have a book."
"Then I guess you'll have to share. Oh, and so you understand the unit, do questions on page 125."
Jeana opened up her book as I slid my desk towards hers. She went to page 125 and I examined it. "All of them?"
She smirked and nodded.
I counted them up. There's 48 questions. I sighed and started working on them. Maybe school isn't as great as I thought it would be.
Class ended and I was only on question 17. I'll ask Alfie to help me when I get home. "Due tomorrow." She said to me. I nodded and left the classroom.
We had a few more classes with the same teachers I've already had and then it was home time.
I came up to Jeana before she went on the bus. "Hey can i have your snap chat? I don't have a phone but I have a tablet I can use." I asked politely. She looked at her feet.
"I don't have snap chat."
"Can u get it?"
She shook her head. "I don't have anything to get it on."
"Oh." Was my response. "Well see ya tomorrow."
She nodded and went in the bus. I sat down by the bus stop and waiting for Alfie or Zoe. I'm really glad I started school on a Thursday so tomorrow can be my last day before the weekend.
I saw Zoe's car park on the road and I ran to it. Alfie stepped out with open arms.
"Hey little one!" He said as he hugged me.
"Hey Alf."
We got into the vehicle and Zoe was in the passenger side. "Hi Maya! How was your first day?"
"Not bad." I answered with a smile. "Ms. Rottenburg is not nice though."
Alfie and Zoe burst out laughing.
"What kind of name is Rottenburg?" Alfie laughed.
I laughed along. "I have no idea." We drove home.
When we got home, we were greeted by a wild Nala, excited and as snorty as ever of our return.
Alfie's pov
"Zoe, I realized that May's birthday is in a month."
She almost spit out her drink. "Oh my, I almost forgot. It's on the second of June, yeah?"
I nodded. Maya is currently up in her room so that gives us space to talk about things like this.
It went silent for a bit until I decided to speak up. "I know exactly what to get her."
