Chapter 39

I go to school, super excited to tell Jeana what happened.

I see her sitting down by the lockers and I run over to her. "Jeana guess what!!"

She looks up and me and stands up. Then she hugs me.

I hug back but I'm confused. "..Jeana?"

She sobs into my arms. I take her outside.

"What wrong?"

She sniffs and looks at the floor, not making eye contact. "Did you tell your parents?"

Oh no... what did they do??

"Um.... about?"

She looks at me now. "You know what it's about."

I gulp. "Please don't be mad."

She sighs. "You saved me from my dad.... but.."

"But what?" I ask, making her go on.

"But.... I'm moving."

I hesitate for a moment. "Oh... WHAT??!"

"My dad got taken to jail because someone called child support on him and they are taking me away to an adoption agency far away from here."

Oh no.... she tells me which one it is. It's the one I was at.

"Jeana I'm so sorry. I told them not to do anything. They were just looking out for you."

"It's okay." She smiles weakly. "Now , what did you have to tell me?"

I look down at the phone in my hand and hide it behind me. "It's not important."

She nods and looks away again. Then the bell rings and she stand up and we go inside.
