"Where is my car?" Kgomotso asked when she found no sign of the Mercedes in the garage. They couldn't have been robbed because the alarm didn't go off at any point during the night.
"It was due for service, so we'll be using your Audi for today because it hasn't been driven in a while."
Oh, that was why he offered to drive her to work. It would've been nice to know beforehand because that felt like a downgrade. Her Audi was a second-hand she bought after completing her articles, which was also the same week she got her driver's license because staying a commuter wouldn't have been a good reflection of her job title. It was an old model and still in good condition as she kept up the maintenance to avoid any nasty surprises, but it just wasn't appealing anymore after a taste of undeniable luxury.
"But you start it every other day."
"So that the battery doesn't die, but it still needs to be driven so that the fluids don't become coagulated because of the lack of circulation."
He lost her at coagulated but Kgomotso wasn't about to argue with him because she wasn't ignorant to how expensive fixing a car was.
"Is there a problem?" she asked, coming to stand next to him as he looked under the bonnet. She could only identify the engine and battery everything else was foreign to Kgomotso, her father tried teaching her how to change a tire but she opted to join an insurance company that offered road side assistance because she was not about that life.
"No, I was just checking the water and oil."
"Oh, okay, and everything is fine?" She had to make sure because the mental calculation of any potential damages was exhausting her.
"Yes, and you have nothing to worry about." He closed the bonnet and gave her a kiss before wiping his hands. The urgent touch of his lips stirred up memories of their tender love-making the previous night and the tingles crawling down her spine rekindled the dull throb at the apex of her thighs.
He wasn't wearing a suit but a nutmeg cashmere polo neck, which enhanced the colour of his bewitching eyes the fit of his pants left her salivating and his Tom Ford cologne made him even more irresistible. It would be a miracle if she made it to work on time because he looked like a tempting snack she was ready to devour.
"Okay, thank you." She smiled, coyly, feeling like a school girl who got noticed by her crush.
"Don't look at me like that, we don't have time." He opened the passenger door and ushered her inside. The throb was now an inferno only he could put out, but he was right a quickie wouldn't be gratifying enough to suppress her need.
"Are you going to work?" she asked when he got inside and darted her eyes away from his piercing gaze to keep him from reading her thoughts.
He reversed out of the garage, moving at a snail's pace. "Yes, but I have an appointment somewhere first."
"Is it business or pleasure?"
Was that a hint of jealousy in her voice? No it couldn't be because there was nothing to be jealous of. Her hormones must be playing tricks on her again.
"It's neither, just something important I need to take care of."
But what could be so important he felt the need to keep it a secret? Because the last time he kept things from her he was put on blast, was he willing to put her through that again? She let her mind wander into that familiar yet unpleasant territory as she bore holes into the side of his head with her pointed gaze. She didn't pick up a vibe of deception from him but that didn't stop her jumping from one conclusion to the next.
