It was a few days before her birthday and she felt a sense of melancholy even though she was excited about the trip. Jabu took over the planning because Kgomotso didn't want to go outside the province so she could stay close to Anesu, she was well into her last trimester and clingy. If it were up to her he'd be coming too but Jabu wasn't sympathetic to her cause as if being pregnant wasn't hard enough.
There was a lot of improvement with Khanya since they came back from Durban, meaning Anesu was right and the ritual worked somehow. She was almost 3 months and a replica of Kamo, proof that her sister once lived which was both comforting and heart-breaking.
Lwazi played a more active role now that Nolitha was living with him and still allowed them weekend visits with Khanya something Kgomotso was grateful for that she even said nothing when Nolitha moved Kamo's clothes into the garage.
"Chommie." Hazel snapped her fingers. "What's wrong? Don't tell me you've changed your mind about going on this trip. I'm already looking forward to getting man handled at the spa and drinking champagne for breakfast."
Kgomotso sighed, shaking her head. Her slice of pizza had gone cold and Hazel finished the spicy wings unprovoked. "I didn't change my mind...its Anesu."
"What did he do?" Her attention was now on Kgomotso and not the food.
"I think I might be making a big deal out of nothing."
Hazel spit the chewed out bones into the Chicken Lickin' box and wiped her hands. "Let me be the judge of that."
Words failed her as tears burned her eyes instead and her treacherous hormones were to blame because there was nothing to cry about. She gently dabbed her eyes with tissue, careful not to disturb her flapping lashes.
"Haibo, chommie, talk to me, what's wrong?" She sauntered around Kgomotso's desk to comfort her. "Did he cheat on you? It's typical of a man to show his ass once he knows it won't be easy for you to leave, I just didn't think Anesu would be that type of man." She went on a rant.
"He didn't cheat." She drank some water to stop the persistent hiccups.
A frown was now etched on Hazel's face. "Then what's wrong, chommie?"
"I never thought I'd have such a full life at my age. I have a loving partner, a baby on the way and running what will one day be a successful company, and I'm grateful for all of it but I'm still missing a ring."
"Hawu, chommie you know men tend to be slow when it comes to that, which is why you need to give Anesu a gentle push in the right direction."
Kgomotso rolled her eyes. "What's so hard about reading between the lines because I know he sees the hints I leave for him."
"Anesu loves you, chommie."
"I know that, Haze and I love him too but I won't settle for being his baby mama when I can be his wife."
Hazel smiled, pushing a few strands behind her ear "I think getting your nails done will make you feel better."
"What? No, my nails are fine." Kgomotso couldn't hide her annoyance sometimes Hazel just wasn't a good listener because a new coat of nail polish and cuticle treatment had nothing to do with Anesu's lack of commitment.
"Hai, marn, let's go it'll be my treat plus we're done with meetings for the day."
"Okay, fine."
She wasn't mad enough to turn down a free manicure.
