Y/N was a simple person who was a civilian that worked on the Enterprise. Though you thought your role on the ship was minor and of no importance, it seemed everyone enjoyed your presence. You were the librarian and spent most of your days in the library. Everyone trusted you with knowing what exactly they were looking for.

But you grew lonely. You were the only one that watched over the large library. There was only the occasional teenager who wanted volunteer hours but they passed through like shadows. You yourself was a shadow. A shadow that danced so beautifully and loudly, despite no voice, that people noticed you. The soft echos of deep conversations in your library were often occurrences that you welcomed greatly. You were often someone that people liked talking to. You couldn't help it. You were the librarian.

Despite all of the people you talked to and the conversations you had, you were a lonely person. No partners to speak of. But one man, Dr Leonard McCoy, was the one you had your eyes on. He was an attractive man who never came into the library but you had seen him around the ship.

The two of you were friendly to each other and sometimes would have lunch together. You were never close with him but it was always nice to talk to someone while on lunch.

One day, while on lunch, you were talking to Leonard. He was insistent that he was called by his first name, not his last name. He said it was because you were friends.

"What do you do for work?" Leonard asked. "I know you're a civilian and there aren't many civilian jobs here."

"I'm the librarian," you replied.

"The librarian?" Leonard asked. "I always wondered who worked there. I always see the teens going in and out of there."

"They help me since I'm the only one that works there," you replied. "They need volunteer time anyways and I'm always happy to help."

"Do you have children of your own, y/n?"

You shook your head. "No. I've always wanted them but never had a partner of my own. I've never been the one to date."

"Why not?"

You shrugged. "I don't really know. I had been in school for awhile and then I got this job so I just stayed single."

"Would you like to change that?" McCoy asked.

"Yeah. Got any suggestions?"

"Go out with me tonight for some drinks."

You smiled shyly. "I'm more of a coffee person."

"Then we'll go out for coffee. How does Saturday morning sound?" McCoy asked.

"It sounds perfect. I'll see you then."
