Weeks passed since Kellerun.

The air aboard the Enterprise was different now—less tense, more hopeful. And for Montgomery Scott, life had never felt quite this full.

The promotion had come sooner than expected. Pike had pulled him aside after a warp core calibration drill and offered him the position of Senior Propulsion Systems Officer. The engine room was his to command now—short of chief engineer—and he'd earned every micron of it.

He took it with a grin on his face and a spring in his step.

But the best part?

Teyla.

They weren't keeping it secret anymore. Not really. She still had her quarters, but most nights ended in Scotty's room—shared scotch, playful teasing, limbs tangled under his covers. Teyla Zire, Kellerun defector and Starfleet tactical systems specialist, had become the most steady, intimate presence in his life.

And their sex life? Scotty wasn't prone to poetic rambling (unless it was about warp theory), but if he were, he'd have compared it to a symphony played in zero gravity. Passionate, intuitive, and often left him staring at the ceiling thinking he'd just transcended time and space.

Even on duty, he'd catch glimpses of her across the engineering deck or a corridor and feel that flutter in his chest.

Then one day, she didn't meet him in the mess hall like she always did.

Instead, Teyla stood in Sickbay with a PADD in her hands, eyes locked on the data screen while Dr. M'Benga spoke gently.

"I've confirmed it twice, Lieutenant Commander," he said. "You're about six weeks along."

Teyla stared at the display. Two faint heartbeats. Hers, and the flutter of something impossibly small.

A baby.

Scotty's baby.

Her breath caught in her throat—not from fear, but from the weight of it. She'd never thought motherhood was in the cards for her. Her life had been war, escape, missions, survival. And now—now she carried the life of the man she loved inside her.

She smiled.

"I want to tell him tonight," she said.

M'Benga nodded. "You should. But—Teyla, I'll be honest with you. Your Kellerun physiology combined with human DNA . . . this pregnancy will require careful monitoring. Especially with your service record."

She nodded. "I understand."

But the universe didn't wait for her dinner plans.

Before she could leave Sickbay, Pike summoned her to the bridge.

"There's been a flare-up in the Theta Zentar system. A pirate vessel attacked a civilian convoy. You're our best tactician for intercept maneuvers. I need you to lead the away team."

Teyla didn't argue. It was who she was. What she did.

She grabbed her gear and left without seeing Scotty.

Hours later, the red alert had passed, but the dread had just begun.

Scotty ran through the corridor, uniform unfastened, sweat-slick hair clinging to his forehead. He burst into Sickbay like a plasma surge, eyes frantic.

"Where is she?!"

Nurse Chapel turned. "She's stable. She's—Scotty, calm down."

"I can't—just tell me she's okay."
