You loved your job as an engineer. You looked working with machines. And you loved the chief engineer, Trip. But, of course, he didn't like you back.

But you didn't mind. You barely talked to him anyway. Nothing would or could happen between you two. You were a lieutenant and he was a commander. No one dates someone in a different level than you.

You casually walked into engineering, looking at the PADD you were reading. You suddenly hit someone, dropping the PADD. You looked up to see Trip.

"I'm really sorry sir. I didn't mean to run into you. I was too busy reading to watch where I was going," you apologized, speaking quickly.

"Slow down there, Miss. It's ok. I don't mind. Just don't read and walk next time, okay?" Trip said.

"Don't tell me what to do," you said, walking away.

You walked to the corner and sat down. You continued to read for a few more hours before your PADD was suddenly snatched from your hands.

"You should be working instead of reading, Ensign. You're lucky I don't report you to the Captain," said Trip.

"You wouldn't," you said, shooting to your feet.

"Try me," Trip said, a smile dancing on his lips. Anger flashed in your eyes and you tried to snatch the PADD back. It didn't work, because Trip held it away from your grip and wrapped an arm around you, restricting your movements. You stared at him before a sly smile appeared on your face.

You grabbed the back of Trip's head and brought it down, kissing him. He lowered his arm and you quickly grabbed it. You dashed away and out of his reach. Laughs erupted from your mouth as you heard Trip call for you.

----

It's been a few days since you kissed Trip. You've been avoiding him, but it was heard since you two worked in the same department, but you managed.

But today you ran into him. Literally. You were walking and not watching where you were going. You ran into him, making you both stumble. He gripped your arms, stopping you from following.

"Y/n, I meant to talk to you. Can you go for a walk?" Trip asked.

"Sure," you said.

You were quiet for the first few minutes of the walk.

"What was that kiss for?" Trip asked when no one was around.

"I wanted to get my book back and I couldn't think of any other way to get it back," you answered.

"So there's no feelings?" Trip asked.

"No, there is," you said, a small smile on your face.

Trip stepped in front of you. "Wait, you mean you like me?"

"Yes," you said, stepping around him and continuing.

Trip caught up to you and grabbed your arm, stopping you. He was standing close to you.

"Would you date me?" Trip asked.

"Literally and figuratively?" You asked.

"Literally. Like, really," Trip whispered as a few people passed by.

"Yes, yes I would," you said, your smiling widening.
