*Ominis POV*
Dread filled my stomach when the carriage approached the front gates of the vast Gaunt Estates.
I had wanted to instantly go with Sebastian and Anne to Feildcroft but my parents had demanded that I return home straight away for the spring gala we always held.
I was nervous they had always given me the option to pick my plus one as long as she met high societies standards.
But if not they would pick a plus one for me hoping I would make a connection.
They wanted nothing more than to rid me from their house.
If I was to wed I could move into the house they had bought for me.
I had wanted to ask Alicia to be my plus one but I had forgotten to ask her as I got so caught up in the spare moments we had together.
I prepared myself as the carriage pulled into the roundabout in front of my house.
I knew my brother Marvelo would be home from Oxford, his favorite thing to do to waste time was to make sure he totured me for my very existance.
We were close when we were younger but when I had refused to turn to the dark arts as he had.
Any love for me was gone, he was embarassed to have me as a brother.
Even though we were in the same house together in Hogwarts he acted if I never existed for the two years we both attended at the same time.
The house elves quickly retrieved my baggage and left me to enter this forboden mansion on my own.
I entered quietly hoping no one would notice that I had arrived
The house elves were running around putting decorations up for the gala. It was the biggest social event for the elite in the spring.
The usual dark and drismal house was filled with sunlight and bright colors that only stood out against the dark colored walls and decore.
Flowers were spewed out into every corner table and sconces that normaly held candles.
Petals had been magicked to float around in the air.
Huge bouquets filled any open place available.
I quickly made it into my room unoticed.
Two garment bags hung off the wardrobe reminding me to pen a letter to Alicia inviting her to be my plus one.
I yearned to be with her now even more so when the memories of the night we shared in this room began to play in my mind.My Beloved Alicia
I know you are quite upset with me, what I did was unexcusable my eyes should have only been for you.
I sorely want to explain myself to you face to face, I know that much of my time had been spent on another woman.
It was very wrong of me to not make you my top priority, as that is what you deserve and what I abhored that about Sebastian when he was courting you.
If you can find it in your heart to give me the chance to converse with you in person. I am extending an invite for you to The Gaunt spring gala.
I am terrified that they will make Saraphina my plus one if I do not have one.
As you know they are hoping that she will end up being my bethrothed.
I am sorry if I have exceded my expectations but I have picked out a dress that I am sending with this letter that I know you will love. In case you decide to attend in hopes of me making amends for my wrong doings towards you.
Forever yours,
OminisI carefully put the garment bag and a card into the box summoning a house elf and asking him to deliver it.
I quickly went to wash up from my travels knowing my parents would be mildy upset if I showed up to dinner in the traveling clothes and the sweat that had accumilated on my body on the way here.
My nerves quickly took over when I got out knowing I had to face all of them shortly. I steeled my nerves and headed down to the dining room.
The obsidian table had been shined to perfection and a quiet sigh of relief escaped my lips when I noticed Marvelo was not sitting at the table. But it was short lived when I noticed Headmaster Black and Saraphina were sitting on the opposite side of the table from where my spot was at.
I did my best to hide my disgusted feelings from my face as I greeted my parents and the Blacks.
"Ominis sweetheart I'm so glad you made it home safe, we figured a small get together would be wonderful before the gala. So we can get some last minute details hammered out.
You haven't replied to our letter so we figured the gala would be a great place for Saraphina and you to get to know one another."
Saraphinas eyes lit up, I wanted to scoff in her face she knew perfectly well that I was courting Alicia. I noticed Headmaster Black slowly nudge Saraphina,
"I have been wanting to spend time with you, now that we might be wed in the future, I know I can come off cold and calculated.
As I am with many other students but I never truely know if someone is a person I can be close to or if they are just hoping to use me to step into the higher class. Knowing that neither of us need the other to lift themselves higher in society makes me at ease."
I wanted to call her a liar right there on the spot. She might be in a family of high regrards and longevity but we had been the oldest bloodline out of all 28 pureblood families. She would be raised higher in society with my last name, if my family wasn't planning on our bethrothal they would have been thrown out instantly, for even thinking they were on the same rung on the ladder of this blasted soiciety.
"Unfortuneatly I have already invited someone to be my plus one and I am currently courting her. I am so sorry to inform you that I am not available to escort Saraphina to the gala."
Saraphinas face turned red as she digested the words I had spoken.
Both my parents and Headmaster Black had faces full of irritation.
I wanted to laugh in their faces, I couldn't wait to be away from this god forsaken family.
This society that poisened anyone who came near it, the ganes they play even though I myself was playing one.
The only difference is there were lines I would never cross, while they headed no boundries.
"Who is this lady who has caught your attention? Did Azalia and you make amends?"
Hope filled my mothers voice.
"she comes from a respected, pureblood family unfortuneatly her parents dissapeared, and there were no other living relatives, she went to a small nunnory for protection."
My mothers eyes grew wide and than narrowed knowing she must be wracking her head trying to figure out what family I was talking about.
But there were 27 other families it was hard to keep track.
An owl flew into the room landing on my chair with a small note attached.I will meet you at the gala.
My heart warmed as I read it, she was giving me another chance to make things right.
I was also greatful that my about having a plus one didn't unwravel. The only lie I told was telling them I had one, when I was unsure if I would.
