MY HANDS REST AGAINST EACH OTHER AS I WATCH THE SCHOOL CHOIR SING. I haven't been sorted yet. Professor Dumbledore walks up to his owl stand.
"Welcome! Welcome! To another year at Hogwarts. Now I'd like to say a few words before we come too befuddled by our excellent feast. First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J Lupin, who's kindly consented to fill the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Good luck, professor."
Dumbledore holds a hand out to professor Lupin and he stands up, hands grasped tightly together. I clap my hands together and turn to Hermione who speaks. "Of course, that's why he gave you the chocolate Harry." I feel out of place, in my blank robes. A blonde boy calls Harry's name.
"Potter. Potter. Is it true you fainted?" One of his friends mimics fainting and the blonde boy chuckles. "I mean, you actually fainted?" He teases. "Shove off Malfoy." Ron turns Harry's body back around and mumbles, "how did he find out?" Hermione leans forward. "Just forget it." She says and I turn my attention back to Dumbledore.
"Secondly, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher, of many years, has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs. Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be taken by none other than our own Rubeus Hagrid." Dumbledore motions towards the giant and he stands up, knocking over some plates and glasses.
I clap my hands politely together and I lock eyes with Dumbledore. "Thirdly, we have one final sorting." A woman wearing a tall black hat steps away from the table and towards a chair seated in front of everyone. She takes a hat and Dumbledore calls out my name. "Jupiter Black." I push myself away from the table, ignoring the loud murmurs of my name.
I sit myself down on the stool and a hat is placed on my head. "Ah! Another Black." The hat calls out as it scans through my mind. "But your not like the rest of your family, not like your father. Or your mother." I wince slightly at the mention of her name.
"I see great things in your future. Ambition, loyalty, power, you would do great in Slytherin, with the rest of your family." I push the thoughts away from my mind. "Hmm, but you could belong elsewhere, you are smart, are you not, and you are kind. But there is something here, that leads me towards..." the sorting seams to go on for a while, the hat muttering between itself.
My hair changes to a dark purple as I nervously wait for it's answer. I count the minutes in my mind and as it approaches seven minutes the hat calls out a house.
"GRYFFINDOR!!!"
The woman lifts the old brown hat from my head and I see Hermione, Harry, and Ron, clap for me. My hair changes back to its jet black colour and I move from the stool and sit myself back down beside Hermione. "Finally, on a more disquieting note, at the request of the Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts will, until further notice, play host to the dementors of Azkaban. Until such a time as Sirius Black is captured."
People whisper between themselves. "The dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds. Now whilst I've been assured that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities, a word of caution. Dementors are vicious creatures. They'll not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way."
Professor Dumbledore locks his eyes with Harry, before he looks at me. "Therefore, I must warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. It is not in the nature of a dementor to be forgiving. But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
Dumbledore brushes his hand over one of the candles, making the flame disappear before bringing the flame back with his hand.

I walk outside of the great hall, beside Hermione, Harry, and Ron. "I'm so glad you're in Gryffindor, we could be dorm mates." Hermione goes on about it and she leads me towards a door with a woman who sings terribly. "Fortuna Major." A boy rushes forwards, calling out to the woman but she stops him, tutting.
"Here, listen. She just won't let me in." He turns to us and Harry calls out the password. "Fortuna Major." She holds out a hand to stop him. "No, no. Wait, wait. Watch this." She holds out a glass. She starts to sing before screaming entirely. I cover my ears and she smashes the glass against the wall. "Amazing! Just with my voice." She places a hand in her chest, giggling.
"Fortuna Major." Harry says again and the singing lady sighs. "Yes, all right. Go in." She opens the door. "Thank you." Harry mumbles and walks inside the common room. I follow behind Hermione. "I'll show you to the dorms." She leads me up some stairs. "All female dorms are here and the boys are on the other side of the stairs." Hermione grabs a piece of parchment attached to her door.
"Just splendid!" She calls out and shows me the parchment. "We will be dorm mates." She opens the door and my luggage is already around an empty bed, along with robes, skirts, trousers, shirts, anything I will need clothes wise. I see a small box there as well and take it.
I open the grey box and see the silver time turner sitting there. I take it and hide it in my hands. "What is that?" Hermione asks me and I smile at her slightly. "Nothing." She nods her head and continues to go on about what we can do as dorm mates.
