TALL GRASS SCRATCHES MY ANKLES AS I MAKE MY WAY UP A HILL. My gaze falls onto the Lovegood house in the distance. There's a feeling creeping through me, a darkness. That I'm unaware of something going on. The other me, The Dark Lord's right hand woman, is aware of everything. But there's something missing. Something is off.
The four of us make our way to the house, walking down the hill. My disguised hair sways behind me, it's curly and brunette. Every time we travel by foot, I make myself look different. Each disguise unique.
I finally get opposite the house and Hermione walks first up the steps and knocks the door. It takes a moment for it to open. Mr. Lovegood stands there, confused. "What is it? Who are you? What do you want?" The man calls out, his eyes scanning over each of us. "Hello. Mr. Lovegood. I'm Harry Potter. We met a few months ago." I move to the side and Harry passes me to go by the door.
"Could we come in?" I don't lower my disguise, not even when we go inside. He leads us up a spiral metal staircase. Mr. Lovegood gives us all mugs of tea and we sit around a small table. Luna isn't here. "Where is Luna?" I question, even my voice is different. His eyes widen slightly. "Luna?" Something is wrong. "She'll be along." We all lift the drinks to our lips. There is no water in here. "So, how can I help you Mr. Potter?" Mr. Lovegood asks.
"Well, actually.. it was bout something you were wearing around your neck at the wedding. It was a symbol." The man digs through his jacket to pull out a necklace. "You mean this?" He holds it in his hand, showing Harry. "Yes. That exactly." Harry reaches and touches it. "What we've wondered is.. what does it mean?" Harry asks. "It's the sign of the Deathly Hallows, of course. I assume you're all familiar with The Tale of the Three brothers?" Harry shakes his head and Hermione reaches for a book in her infinite bag.
She turns the pages and begins to read it. "'There were once three brothers who were travelling along a lonely, winding road at twilight'-" Hermione gets cut off by Ron. "Midnight. Mum always said 'Midnight'." Hermione gives Ron a look. "But 'twlilight's fine. Better, actually." Hermione silently turns back to the book. Mr. Lovegood stands and looks out of the window.
"'There were once three brothers who were travelling along a lonely, winding road at twilight. In time, the brothers reached a river too treacherous to pass. But, being learned in the magical arts, the three brothers simply waved their wands and made a bridge. Before they could cross, however, they found their path blocked by a hooded figure. It was death.'"
"'And he felt cheated— cheated because travelers would normally drown in the river. But death was cunning. He pretended to congratulate the three brothers on their magic and said that each had earned a prize for having been clever enough to evade him.'"
