CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE ; A BLAST TO THE PAST
season 2 episode 9
———

THE EXPLOSIVES ARE GETTING MADE, while no one is talking. Sam, Selene and Dean were sitting in the front room making them, Sam had taught Selene how to make some. That was the extent of the talking, Dean was on edge and Selene was still trying to calm herself down from everything while Sam was just stuck in the middle.

What broke the silence was when the doctor came in and told them, "Duane's blood is still clean. I don't think he's infected. I'd like to untie him, if that's alright?" She was asking Dean, who only looked at her for a second then let his eyes drift to Sam and Selene. When Dean doesn't say anything, Sam gives the doctor the go ahead.

Selene and Sam give each other a glance, and before either of them could say something, Dean states "We need more alcohol." To which sam got up and instructed himself to go get it, leaving Selene and Dean alone.

There was a thick tension between them, and Selene hated it—she hated felt this uncomfortable around Dean since the beginning. Even then she knew what to say to him, but in this moment it was like they were two completely different people. They weren't Dean and Selene, but they weren't strangers—they were just Dean and just Selene. Separate people.

Selene couldn't handle it anymore, that's why she stood up suddenly and told him, "I'm going to help him." Dean looked up at her, and she could see it in his eyes—and it was as if she saw what his problem was. Selene was closer with Sam, in ways that she wasn't close with Dean and for the first time—Dean was jealous.

Not just boyfriend jealous thinking that Sam was going to steal Selene, he knew better. It was the fact that their bond was beyond anyone's understanding, even Selene's. Dean seemed to have just opened his eyes to it, the way he saw Selene and Sam look at each other earlier, and then he saw them hugging for whatever reason he doesn't know. Dean was just...jealous.

Selene didn't have the energy to face this problem, she just needed a minute—she just needed Sam. So, Selene stepped out of the room and started to walk down the hall to the supply closet. When she looked up, she saw David walking towards her. They locked eyes for a moment, but he was quick to look away, learning from his mistakes.

This touched something in Selene, sure—she got what she wanted. But it didn't feel right, whatever was in control of her moods really needed to start sticking to one or another because she felt her head spinning from what she was doing.

"David?" Selene called out just as David passed her, David was quick to stop and looked back at her, his ears perking up at the mention of his name from her mouth. Selene swallows the lump in her throat and she then says, "I'm...sorry to hear about your wife."

David's face falls, and he sniffles at the mention of something so painful. It was a slight shock to hear those words come from her, and it felt weird for her to say, but ultimately it was the nicest thing she's said to him this whole time.

"Thanks, just trying to get through the day. I can grieve when this all over." David tells her, turning his body fully towards her as he. even dares to take a small step. "Her name was Lola."

Selene nods her head, taking in the information she was being given. It was weird to think about her father would another woman, but the man in front of her wasn't her father anymore. Selene doesn't know why she keeps wanted to ask, but the question's been lingering in her mind, "Did you have kids with her?"
