CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR: THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL
———

THE FEAR PARALYZED HER, she couldn't bring herself to look away from the empty floor in front of her. It was too much, all of it—her world was crumbling. She never should've gone to the demon's house, she never should've searched for the answers to dangerous questions. When you play with fire—the world burns.

The next moments came in a haze, before she even knew it—she felt a body slam into her. Stunning her as she felt a hard wall come in rough contact with her body. Selene hissed at the contact, but didn't linger in it.

Not when other things occupied her mind, like Dean. Who was standing in front of her, his forearm pressed against her chest as he held a knife to her throat. A look of danger in his eyes, a look of fear and angry. Selene's breathing was quick and uneven, she felt like it was all a nightmare—begging to wake up.

This can't be happening, not like this.

"Who are you?" Dean questioned, keeping the knife steady at her throat. Pushing a little to get answers, she saw the shock behind his eyes. Saw that he was searching for answers, but she didn't want to give it to him.

"Dean—" Bobby started, putting a hand on Dean's shoulder but he shrugged it off.

"Sam, get the holy water." Dean demanded instructed, wanting to save his girlfriend from whatever hell possessed her. But—no one moved. Dean glanced over his shoulder, seeing that Sam and Bobby were both still standing there. Sam's head hung low, as if he was ashamed while Bobby just gave him a look. Dean's brows frowned in confusion, "What the hell guys?"

"It's me." Selene spoke up, her voice raspy and quiet out of fear that any loud noise would send Dean's knife through her throat. Dean's head snapped back at her, once his eyes were locked in her. They kept that eye contact, Dean stared into her green eyes, examining them closer than he ever has before—that's how he knew. "It's Lena."

Dean shook his head, trying to deny the obvious truth, "No, it's not. You're lying!" But even he didn't believe it himself, there was something in his gut telling him the truth. The only word to describe it would be deja vu.

"Put the knife down, son." Bobby spoke up while grabbing  Dean's arm, but Dean tried to fight him off. Which is when both Bobby and Sam grabbed one arm each and pried him away from the frightened girl.

"What is wrong with you guys?!" Dean shouted as he escaped their grasps, pushing them both away from him. Dean felt like an imposter, as if he was the one in the wrong, as if he had been the one doing something wrong. While he asked Sam grab Selene's hand and pull her away from the wall, Dean questioned one again, "Sam, what the hell is going on?"

Sam and Selene shared a knowing look, there was no more avoiding this. It was time, but Sam knew it shouldn't come from him. So, all Sam had to say to his brother was, "Dean, give me the knife."

Dean stares at Sam's open hand, debating on what to do. A thought crossed his mind, maybe they were all possessed. But if that was the case, what could he do? He wouldn't be able to hurt the three people he cares about the most. So, even though he wasn't sure that his life wasn't in danger—he handed Sam the knife.

Dean's eyes locked onto Selene, watching as she stared at his feet in fear. In shame. Selene swallowed the nervous lump in her throat, bringing the back of her hand to her face as she wiped the tears from her cheeks, "Dean, there's something I need to tell you"

"Yeah, no shit." Dean stated blunted, "You've got some serious explaining to do."

"Just know, that this doesn't change anything for me. Everything I did and said, I still mean. I still love you, and please try to remember how much you loved me. " Selene started, a pain in her voice as she speaks.
