CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE:
THE DEATH OF SAM WINCHESTER
season 2 episode 21
———SITTING ALONE IN THE KITCHEN, Selene had made herself a meal. It wasn't anything good, it was actually just some leftovers from her dinners with Bobby. She's been staying at his house for two weeks, everything just felt like it was playing on loop. She's sleeps, eat and repeat. Bobby had tried to offer to take her on hunts, but she felt no energy, everything in her felt like it was broken. Shattered and tossed away.
She wore a pair of black sweatpants and one of Dean's hoodies, at night she wrapped it around herself as she nuzzled into Sam's old bed that Bobby let her stay in. She never cried, she couldn't bring herself to since that night. In fact, recently she hadn't felt much—just numb.
Sam occasionally texted, to check in on her, but she felt like she didn't deserve it. His love for her was misplaced, she wasn't worthy of it—she destroys everything she touches. She is doomed. Death follows her but never gets her.
Selene didn't know what to do with herself, she wondered if this was just her life now. Missing the boys terribly, missing what it felt like to lay in Dean's arms every night, to feel the weight of his love in every look, every word, every kiss. She missed his smile, his dirty jokes and the late drives in the Impala.
Now, when she closes her eyes all she sees is the look in his eyes at the end. The hatred. The disgust. All of it she felt, and she felt it for herself. How could he ever love her now? He deserved more than her, so did Sam.
She tainted them and destroyed them. Her darkness followed them around and hung over them like a storm cloud, she didn't see it because she was blinded by her love. If she had, maybe she would've done things differently, maybe she would've saved herself the heartbreak.
Selene felt her stomach turn, she missed them so much. Sam and Dean became her whole life, so much that she even gave her up brother. They changed her, a year ago if she found Sebastian she would've given him that potion in an instant—but she wasn't the same girl as a year ago.
She wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, if it weren't for them—the strong power that inside her...the Dark Witch, wouldn't be here. Who knows, maybe her love from them is what will destroy everyone else.
As Selene was sitting there, sulking over what she's lost, her head starts to ache. Probably from all the thinking and in her head she was doing, she brought a hand to her temple and started to rub at it. Trying to ease the pain that seemed to only be growing, Selene winced as it grew.
Standing up, Selene thought she should find something in the cabinets to ease her migraine. Yet, the second she stood, the world moved around her. Selene brought her hand to the table to stable herself, closing her eyes tightly as she rubbed at the burning pain behind her eyes.
Just then, she finds herself falling to her knees, dropping to the ground and ending up on all fours. Her food fell to the floor beside her, the glass bowl shattering. Just as the pain was becoming more than she could handle—something happened.
There was a blur of images in front of her, at first she couldn't pick out what there were at first. Until they came more into focus, she was able to see that one of them was a bell hanging over a well with engravings on it. Then—then she sees Sam, standing in front of that bell as he looked at her.
All she hears as a faint echo is him call out to her, "Selene!" It was so far, but he felt so close, she could almost reach out and touch him. That's even what she tried to do, reaching her hand out to grab his—but he's gone.
