CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE ; HELLFIRE
season 2 episode 14
———SELENE FORCED THE STRENGTH TO RETURN TO HER, she made Dean go ahead because she needed to gather herself up. Selene grabbed Sam's jacket her had left on the floor, and put it around her shoulders. Covering herself up, ignoring the blood that soaked her skin or the pain that followed it. All she could think about was Sam, she was trying to be brave and strong for him.
Selene looks out over at the opened patio door, where Dean had ran out to chase for Sam—it was raining now. The rain was thick and loud, Selene could see the trees outside, could see the wind blowing through them and the lake in the distance.
That's when a sick feeling crept inside of her, as she stood at the door the cold night wind mixed with the moisture of of the rain hit her skin. As she was staring out at the woods, Selene felt as if she was a little girl again. Thirteen years old again. Terrified and nearly paralyzed.
These woods were a terrible thing for Selene, she felt as if she was walking through time. Each step she took, each raindrop that touched her skin and soaked her clothes, the blood leaking from her neck, it was all to familiar.
Just as the lake was in sight, the moon above them making it glisten and making its reflection dance along the water. Selene felt her stomach turn as she saw Dean standing at the edge of the water, saw him standing with his back facing her as he stared out at the water. As if searching for something.
"Dean?" Selene's voice came out weak and little, to her ears it sounded like a child. Yet Dean heard it, and as he turned to face her something happened. It started with a loud bang, making Selene flinch.
It happened so fast, one minute Dean was standing there turning around to look at her the next he was falling backwards into the water. A bullet hit him, Selene didn't see where, she didn't see much else other than Dean's body hit the water with a large splash.
Selene knew those waters, it wasn't just a normal lake—it was large and it was a void of emptiness. When it stormed like it was now, the water would get angry and vicious, even on a good day it was hard to swim in. Now Dean had to try and survive through it shot, in the dark and in the storm.
Everything was just overwhelming her, the sight of Dean—watching him disappear in the darkness of the water. Looking over and seeing it was Sam who held the gun, who just shot his brother.
Magic seemed to be the only thing that worked for her in this moment, as if it had a mind of it's own as she raised her hand and sent Sam flying against the tree. The gun falling to the ground, his back hitting the tree roughly as his eyes landed on Selene, her hand slowly squeeing into a fist as the air started to leave his lungs.
Sam just smirked through the pain as he managed to say between his chokes, "Gonna kill me? Or let Dean drown—just like you let—your brother." His words cut deeper than any knife, cut out her heart and served it to herself. Selene's magic faltered, her eyes returning to their green and her grip on Sam loosening. Allowing him to breath properly.
Selene looked back at the lake, Dean hadn't resurfaced. Dean was lost down there, dying, drowning. Just like Sebastian. Was she going to make the same mistake twice?
So, Selene looked back at Sam, her eyes cold as she put her hand down. It wasn't that she wanted to let him go, but she couldn't let Dean die—not like this. Not in the lake that killed her brother. This lake has taken too much from her already, it wasn't about to take the love of her life.
