CHAPTER SEVENTEEN ; RESURRECTION
*trigger warning : suicidal attempt/topics*
———
SELENE WAS GOING HOME, it's felt like ages since Selene has step foot in her lone cabin in the woods. As she approached, she felt a eerie sense of calmness. These trees, the sound of the wind and the smell of fresh rain has been all she's known for nearly ten years. After her mother's death, this was where she settled down—no foster home or even group home, just her alone at the fresh age of sixteen. Selene taught herself how to steal from nearby markets and of course magic can in handy in those situations, there was a few apple trees out behind the cabin, Selene even learned to fish and how to tell the different between things that are poison and edible. Books helped in growing her own little garden, not that it was very good—it was still useable.
These woods, this cabin is the closest thing to a home she has. This place is the only safe place in her heart, it's how she learned to harness her power and to take control of it—instead of it taking control of her. Although this place was a symbol of her loneliness and her wickedness, it was the only thing she knew wouldn't leave her.
Selene pushed open the wooden door, hearing its usual creek as she did so. It was cold inside, usually she'd have a fire lit to keep her warm throughout the rainy nights just like this one. It was pouring outside, and by the time Selene was inside—she was already drenched. Selene walked inside, taking in the smell of all her candles and herbs that she kept scattered around. It was the same way as she left it, a mess, but her mess. It was waiting for her return, and it waited patiently.
Once she was out of the rain, Selene dropped her bags onto the floor before she shrugged off her jacket and laid it on the back of the worn down couch. The water dripped from it and soaked into the floors, but that was nothing the cabin wasn't used to. It's been through a lot, considering Selene was its resident.
It was a comforting thought for the girl to think that the house was alive, that it could breathe and could feel everything she did. They were connected, which she found funny now knowing about her and Sam. Her connection to this place was different, it's been the only constant thing in her life—the only love and comfort she's ever known.
Selene turned to face the fireplace, chopped wood remained perfectly placed inside as always. With just a wave of her hand, a fire came ablaze. Selene sat in front of it on the floor, letting the warmth take over her as she curled her knees up to her chest. What was going to happen tonight, was going to take a lot out of her—it could destroy her if not done properly.
It was a price she was willingly to pay, well it was a lot harder to accept that fate now. With Sam and Dean, it changed something. Before them, she wasn't afraid of dying. She told herself she when the time came she would greet death as if he were an old friend, she'd take his hand and let him guide her to whatever is waiting for her on the other side. But now, when she thinks about dying, she just thinks about the pain that it would bring her to leave Sam, to leave Dean.
Maybe, just maybe this house isn't the only comfort she knew. The boys meant something to her, more than just a mission—they were friends. Selene's has been conditioned to fear hunters her whole life, to hide from them but the Winchester's they were different. It felt like they were the ones putting spells on her, making her care for them in more ways than she should.
But even then, she couldn't change tonight. No matter how scared she was, no matter how much she cared about those boys—her brother needed her and Selene needed him.
