CHAPTER FORTY-NINE:
THE SECRETS ARE NEVER ENDING
———

WALKING INTO THE MOTEL FIRST, Selene held her bruised side as she entered the cold room alone. The others were talking with Bobby and Ruby downstairs as the two of them were going to leave, but Selene's side hurt so bad that they urged her to go lay down. So, she didn't object, she just wanted to rest.

But, as she stepped into the room, she noticed a shadow sitting on the chair at the table. It made Selene jump slightly, quickly turning on the lights to reveal the mystery figure—until she wished she had kept the lights off. There in the chair with a smug look plastered across his face was Rowan. Her demon ex-boyfriend, Rowan.

Quickly, Selene looked back into the hall making sure that none of the others were approaching as she shut the door. Turning to Rowan with a panicked look all over her face as she questioned, "What are you doing here?"

"Thought we could finish our talk." Rowan told her, standing up from the chair and dared to take a step closer to her. But Selene held up her hand, demanding without words that he stay where he was. Rowan obeyed, but still he said, "Selly, I want to help you."

Selene shook her head, letting out a scoff at that statement, her eyes filling with hatred as she took a step forward. Her voice laced with disgust as she spoke, "Last time I heard that, you were using me."

Her mind flashed back to the first time he said those words to her, which is what led to allowing him to help her harness her powers—which also led to her sleeping with him and being with him for a year.

"I'm sorry about that, I never wanted to hurt you." Rowan explained, and she could've sworn that she was genuine concern spread across her face. Yet she didn't believe an ounce of her, "I promise I'll help you save Dean, but you have to let me."

"How do I know you're not just lying to me again? How do you expect me to put my boyfriend's life in your hands?" Selene questioned, her chest rising and falling as she tried to control her breathing to maintain her anger. It's something Bobby told her to do to keep the Witch down.

Rowan took a casual step forward, something Selene didn't even notice as she was so caught up in her breathing. Not until she realized how close he sudden became to her, his dark brown eyes staring intently to her as his voice dropped low to a whisper, as if he didn't want anyone else to hear his words, "I know you won't ever believe me, but you were more than just a job to me. I'd do anything for you, anything to gain your trust."

"Start by getting away from me." Selene ordered, as she not started to hold her breath—not wanting to share the same air as Rowan. He seemed almost disappointed in her words, but still he listened.

Just as Rowan was about to take a step back, the door swung open—as Rowan and Selene both turned to face it. Her face going red and eyes wide as if she had been caught, seeing Dean's eyes land on her first...then shifting towards the man who stood a little too her for his comfort.

"What the hell is this?" Dean asked, an irritation growing in his voice instantly, looking between the two of them accusingly. Then, his eyes landed on Selene as he asked the question, a hint of aggression in his voice as he did so, "Who's this?"

Selene went to open her mouth to speak, ready to explain everything to Dean as she realized he still was yet to know about her little secret ex-boyfriend. But, before she had to chance to explain, Rowan beat her to it, "You didn't tell him about us, Selly? I'm hurt."
