Staring aimlessly at the ceiling, Rera thought. She thought about everything that had happened so far. In such a seemingly short amount of time, so much has happened.
Rera was kidnapped by Taiyo and Cheshire. She was fused with other children who had gone through the same Rituals as her. Rera found out the original name of this body because of Zhion. She was forced into an illusion and spoke to Rai.
"..."
Outstretching her hand to the ceiling, a sharp gasp came out of her mouth. Her vision glitched for a moment. Her arm had turned into scales. She remembered Ven and the others at that moment and shut her eyes. She didn't want to remember their screams.
Pulling the covers over her head, Rera curled into a ball and looked at her hands once more, only for her sight to glitch again. She covered her face with her hands and tugged on her bangs. What was she starting to become?
Knock knock knock!
!!!
"Rera?" Zhongli's voice called from behind the door. "May I come inside? I made breakfast."
"...Yeah."
Carefully opening the door, Zhongli walked inside with a tray of food. He set the tray on the nightstand and took a seat on the edge of the bed. Zhongli glanced at the curled-up child and softened his gaze.
"Rera. What happened?"
"..."
"Please. I wish to know so I can-"
"Wh...m...I..."
"Hm? Could you repeat that please?"
"What...am I...?"
"..."
"You are Rera. A very wonderful child." Zhongli replied, gently placing his hand on her head.
"...I'm a monster...aren't I?"
"Now now, what makes you think-"
"Don't lie to yourself. You've seen what I can do. You know what I'm capable of."
"..."
"Regardless of what you are or what you look like, your heart will never change. You are a kind girl who has healed the cracks of my eroding heart with your very presence. All of the time I have spent with you forever has a place in my memory. Even if you view yourself as a monster, I do not think so."
"..."
"You do not have to tell me anything you don't want to. Just know I will always be here whenever you need me."
"..."
"I shall give you some space."
Removing his hand, Zhongli slowly stood up. However, he felt her hand pull his sleeve, he looked behind him and saw Rera clinging onto him.
"Would you like me to stay?" He asked, smiling.
"...Mhm."
"As you wish." He chuckled, sitting back down.
"Um...c-can I...uh...."
"..."
A long silence passes. Zhongli patiently waited for Rera to finish her sentence. But he saw that she struggled with saying it. Perhaps her thoughts were clashing with what she wanted.
Understanding this, he carefully lifted her onto his lap. He wrapped the blanket around her as he held her close. His warmth was relaxing, Rera felt her thoughts washing away the longer she stayed like this.
