I can't help staring at my son

I can't help staring at my son. He's just so precious and beautiful to me.

He's currently eating his colorful cereal in the shape of tiny rings. I don't know why he likes it so much but he does and I fully support it even though it's just pure sugar.

"Cat." Orion glances up from his cereal.

"Yes?" I prepare for whatever he is going to ask me.

"What do you think about Silas? You know Ace's friend." He seems to be searching for some sort of approval.

"He seems like a nice guy." I speak what I'm sure he is thinking.

"He is. I met him at Aunt Lucia's wedding, and we shared a cookie because it was the last one." He suddenly informs me of something I was completely unaware of.

"Him and Ace are cool. I wish I had a papa like him."

I stare at him in silence. The things I would do to make him happy and give him a good father. It just isn't possible. It hurts to know he is silently hurting and that if I try to fix it, I will most certainly only make it worse.

"Are you sure you only want to go bowling and then to the observatory?" I change the subject.

"I'm sure." He continues enjoying his cereal.

Orion suddenly pauses eating and glances at me again. "You will be there the whole time, right?"

"I will." I nod as guilt consumes me because in reality, I can't promise anything.

His light brown eyes glimmer as he stares at me. There is a very small but content smile on his lips.

"Thank you." He very quietly says that I almost don't hear it.

I enter the hospital making my way to my office. I'm in a good mood this morning because Orion doesn't seem to hate me yet today and I got to drop him off at school.

"Dr. Alcaraz." Yaretzi stops me before I get to go to my office.

"Good morning." I give her a smile as I walk toward the front desk.

"Good morning, I just wanted to inform you that a gift was dropped off at your office." She returns the smile as only the worst comes to mind.

"A gift? From whom?" I ask in case they left a name or something.

"I'm not sure. Some delivery men dropped it off, but they didn't leave a note or name." She informs me.

"It's okay. Thank you." I give her another smile before going straight to my office.

I enter to see a huge bouquet of red roses. Only one person comes to mind as I set my bag and belongings down.

I walk toward the pretty flowers to immediately see a card hidden within them. This all gives me déjà vu and I hate it. It's not necessarily something I like reliving because it involves him.
