I admire my fine work before closing the refrigerator door.
I've finished making Orion's chocolate cake. Today is our birthday and I intend to make my little star happy on this day. I want him to feel special and see that I do love him. I am hoping that what my mother has told me countless times is true. As he gets older, he will understand me and realize that I do love him. I adore him.
I take the small cupcake I bought, and I put a candle in the middle before taking a lighter in my hand. I make my way upstairs and toward his bedroom to awaken him. I walk in to see him still sleeping. I gently wake him up after lighting the candle. He opens his pretty eyes to see the cupcake, the candlelight reflects in them.
"Feliz cumpleaños, estrellita." A smile subconsciously fills my face.
He tries to hide his precious smile from me but isn't able to. He smiles so big as he sits up while I softly sing happy birthday to him.
"Make a wish." I excitedly tell him when I've finished.
He briefly glances at me before looking at the candle and softly blowing it out. I give him a big hug right after. I right away feel myself become emotional but I hold it all back as now isn't the time to cry about how fast my little baby is growing. Eleven years ago, around this time I was staring at his gorgeous face taking in the fact that I was his mother.
"Feliz cumpleaños, Cat." He tells me when he pulls back from the hug.
"Thank you, my love. Now get dressed so that you can have breakfast." I watch as he takes the cupcake from me.
"Birthday breakfast?" His eyes glimmer with hope.
"Like every year." I nod giving him a kiss on the forehead.
"I'll be there in a little bit." He takes a big bite of the cupcake before handing it back to me.
"I'll be waiting." I say as I leave his bedroom.
I go back downstairs to prepare his annual birthday breakfast. I make him his chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon. I drench the pancakes in syrup with a bit of butter just the way he likes them. I then make him a healthy smoothie with banana, strawberries, milk, and some cocoa powder. On the side I place a bowl of fruit. I finish by the time he appears in the kitchen, his hair still messy, a comb in his hand, and his school uniform on.
He smiles to himself when seeing the big meal.
Orion begins to eat as I neatly comb his hair with a bit of gel like always do. I watch him enjoy his breakfast and the mere site of it makes my heart full and content.
I drink my coffee as I converse with him about school. From the way he behaves and talks about it he seems to be really enjoying it. I gave him the option to stay home today but he chose to go to school instead. It confused me a little how fast he chose that option. He usually always wants to stay home on his birthday. I've also noticed how he sprays a bit of cologne on himself. It's not something he usually does unless we're going somewhere fancy. Then a thought came to me. I think he may be crushing on someone, but he hasn't said anything to me about it.
