It's been exactly forty-eight hours.
Neither Orion nor I have left the house. I've only made excuses as to why he isn't going to school and why we're locked in the house. I have been thinking and I came to the conclusion that I am basically helpless. Only one thing has been crossing my mind. I'm at my breaking point so I am going to do it.
"Orion!" I decide to call for him now.
A few seconds later he walks into my bedroom.
"Yes?" He comes in with a small smile, waiting for me to respond.
All I have to do is be honest and explain things clearly. He's a smart kid so I'm hoping that he will understand me.
"Come sit down. I need to talk to you about something." I pat the space on the bed beside me, and he takes a seat giving me his whole attention.
"Kane wants us to be a family and he wants to force us to live with him." I begin.
"I don't want that because I don't love him. Being with him is not what I desire. Aside from the fact that I enjoy my freedom, I'm also confident that he won't be a good partner to me." I reach and take his hand in mine.
"I don't want to be with him either." His brows knit as he responds, presumably wondering where I am headed with this.
"That is the reason why we need to leave tonight." I've come to the conclusion that it's the best choice for us at the moment.
"Leave?" A puzzled expression forms on his precious face.
I give a nod. "We're leaving the city and then hopefully the country. It's the only way Kane will leave us alone. If we disappear, he won't hurt us or anyone else."
"So we're running away." He concludes, and when he puts it like that, it sounds like I'm being a coward.
"I guess so." I softly sigh. "It's for the best and it's only temporary."
If he says he doesn't want to go along with this then I'll think of something else. I simply want him to agree.
"But what about Silas? What about Aunt Lucia, Ace, grandma, and grandpa? Will we see them?" He asks, his lovely face turning worried.
He continues with questions. "Will I see my friends again? Am I going to be able to continue playing soccer and going to school?"
"Yes, my love. We'll be back." I reassure him, gently squeezing his hand, even if I haven't quite figured everything out yet.
After a brief period of silence, Orion gives me a warm embrace and a kiss on the head. "Let's go then."
"Kane won't hurt us again. I'll protect you the way you have always protected me." His words hit a weak spot in my heart. It makes me a little emotional.
"And I'll keep protecting you for as long as I live." I give him a gentle forehead kiss.
"Should I pack or what are we doing?" He inquires, prepared for whatever I will say.
