I'm relieving my mind of boredom by reading a random book I found, when I hear keys on the other side of the door unlocking.
I set down the book and look toward the direction. I remain seated on the bed when Kane comes in. He is holding a wooden tray full of food. I roll my eyes in annoyance because I don't want any food. Apart from not being hungry, I am also a bit skeptic on the food. His mother and sister hate me. I wouldn't put it past them if they tried to poison me.
I observe Kane coming around the bed toward the side I'm on. After setting the tray on my lap, he grabs a chair. He slides it near me and then takes a seat.
With a serious look on his face, he makes a demand. "Eat."
"No." I resist the urge to throw the food at his face, but I don't want to be a pain to the maids, so I hold back.
"Eat, Catalina." He looks directly into my eyes.
"If you don't, I won't tell you the news I have on our son." He just knows how to get to me.
I can see that he really does have something to tell me, so I quietly sigh in annoyance. With two fingers I pinch a small piece of bread from the sandwich in front of me. I put it in my mouth, and I eat it before glancing at Kane.
"There. Now tell me." I demand back. He seems a bit amused with my actions as he leans back comfortably in the chair.
"He's with your stupid little boyfriend." He confirms what I already suspected.
I'm just glad it isn't anything else. If he would have said that he had my son, I would have pushed him out the window that is a few feet behind him.
"I want you to call him and demand that he returns our son." Kane speaks as if it's so simple. As if I would actually agree to do that.
"No."
He nods. "Very well then. I'll just get him myself."
"Okay." I know he will try but he won't achieve anything.
Kane doesn't say anything else, and he stands to leave. He is a few steps away from the door when I stop him.
"Kane, wait." I get off the bed with the tray in my hands.
He turns around with a hopeful expression on his face. His eyes light up as he watches me approach him.
"Take this with you." I place the tray in his hands.
The hope fades and he only sighs. "Catalina."
"I'm full." I open the door for him, and I basically push him out the room.
"You ate a crumb." He seems frustrated and then I slam the door in his face.

I'm staring out the window at the sunset when the door to the room is unlocked. Kane walks in for the second time today and his eyes find me right away.
