Chapter 55

In the heart of the city Indore, a lone figure of Rehaan stood in a corner of his bedroom in Bundela mansion, gazing out at the expanse of darkness that stretched before him. Aarohi was a couple of feet away from him, and as their eyes alight with a quiet intensity, their thoughts were lost in the labyrinth of their own mind. They both were a solitary sentinel, keeping watch over the city as it slumbered beneath a blanket of stars.

In the embrace of a dark night, when the stars were veiled by heavy clouds and the moon hid its luminous face, the world took on a mysterious air, shrouded in shadows and secrets. It was a time when the imagination ran wild, conjuring phantoms in the darkness and whispering tales of the unknown. Rehaan was one such figure, as Aarohi thought who had hidden too many secrets beneath the dump of his expressive emotions visible from outside.

Lost in the thoughtful nature of the night, Rehaan’s husky voice startled her out of the blue. “Will you be able to sleep here? You mustn’t worry since I will lie down somewhere in the veranda. Being a host for tonight, I would not like my guest feeling uncomfortable at my place.”

Within the cozy confines of a quaint room, the atmosphere was alive with a different kind of chill – the kind that sent shivers down the spine in the most delightful of ways. The air between them was charged with a palpable energy, a magnetic pull drawing them closer with each passing moment.

Aarohi would not like to quarrel with him any further. “You may share the room with me.”

“I won’t mind.” He reached out to tuck a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, his touch sending tingles of warmth cascading down her spine. She leaned into his embrace, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her fingertips. “I really want to start everything from the scratch with you. Will you permit me one ultimate time, Aarohi? Don’t I deserve a last chance?”

“You surely possess some magical spell. . .” She said, her voice a tender melody in the night air. “As much as I am mad at you, I also can’t resist you.”

He smiled, his eyes reflecting the twinkle of distant constellations. “I will make it up to you, reversing all my previous behaviour of hurting you,” he replied, squeezing her hand gently. “I will mend my ways and become so eligible for you. What I need is a little trust and support on your part.”

She blushed, a soft flush rising to her cheeks. "You always know just what to say," she murmured, leaning into his side. “If taking this last attempt of giving you the opportunity, I would not like you to repeat offending me again.”

"Only because you inspire me," he whispered, his words a promise in the darkness. In that moment, time seemed to stand still. There were no words needed, no grand gestures required. It was enough to be here, together, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the winter night. “You are a brave woman in whom I am willing to delve deeply some day.”

As they sat on the bed together in companionable silence, the world outside faded into insignificance. All that mattered was the connection they shared, the gentle caress of their hearts intermingling in the stillness of the night. Rehaan’s wobbly eyes came to a standstill on hers as he began to read through her vision in utterly noiseless pattern of admiration.

“These eyes have always intimidated me,” He said again, moving another inch closer to her. “I want to seek your forgiveness and sip the enchanting potion trickling through these eyes, both at the same time. I want to confess that—”

“That these flowery sentences have also been robbed from somewhere!” Aarohi was suddenly reminisced of the past. “Like those quotes!”

“Aarohi—” He grabbed her by her shoulders, and their eyes refused to deviate from each other. “It has not been mentioned anywhere in the world that one cannot send quotes that he feels suitable to be shared.”
