Chapter 62

Last we left off, Meliodas ended up telling Ban and Wilde his story, with Zeldris revealing that Zeldris had a wife and daughter that he had to seal away due to Meliodas's. Meanwhile, at the battle in Camelot, it was revealed that both Gelda and Yue are alive and that Meliodas sealed them away and promised Zeldris to reunite him with them if he helped him get the remaining commandments. After that, Escanor manages to use The One Form to penetrate Zeldris's Ominous Nebula, injuring Zeldris, with Ludociel following up with a powerful slash that incapacitated Zeldris. As he prepared to finish him off, Chandler and Cusack interfered and proceeded to push the assault force back. That's when Merlin's spell took effect, allowing the assault force to claim the advantage, and just as it seemed victory was in their grasp, something unexpected happened as Ludociel and Merlin's memories of Estarossa and Mael began collapsing, with the same thing happening to everyone who knew Estarossa during the Holy War. That's when it was revealed that this was due to Gowther and Gowther (the demon) using a forbidden spell that managed to manipulate everyone other than Ian's memories in order to corner the Godess clan into sealing the demons away. However, that spell's effects got undone, and everyone's memories returned to normal, revealing that Estarossa was none other than Mael of the Four Archangles.

We now see everyone looking at Estarossa in shock and confusion.

King: What is this? Why does Estarossa of the Demon Clan have wings? And why does he look like Mael?

That's when Mikaela chimed in.

Mikaela: If I were to take a guess, I'd say that it's because he was never a demon in the first place; in fact, from what I managed to gather, he is Mael.

That's when Gowther chimed in.

Gowther: You're correct, Mika.

Said Gowther getting King and Gloxinia's attention.

King: Gowther?

Gowther: Estarossa of the demon race never existed in the first place; what you are seeing is his true appearance as one of the Four Archangles, Mael.

Gloxinia: I see; it all adds up now.

Said Gloxinia before turning to Gowther.

Gloxinia: By manipulating everyone's memories of Mael and making them believe that Mael was Estarossa, you manage to shift the balance of power in the holy war, which was what forced the godesses to seal the demons away. This was yours and the real Gowther's plan, wasn't it?

Gowther: That is correct.

Said Gowther as Mael got on all fours and held his head in pain as his memories were returning to normal while everyone looked at him in shock.

Sariel: No way.

Tarmiel: You're really Mael?

Gloxinia: Apparently.

Said Gloxinia as Mael looked on in complete shock.

Mael: Was...I having some sort of nightmare?

That's when Mael's memories began fully returning to normal as he remembered all his times with the godesses Elizabeth, Ludociel, Sariel, and Tarmiel and began remembering his childhood and how he grew up believing that by killing Demons he would be saving their souls and would be freeing them from their impure cages, and how eventually he grew into becoming the strongest of the Four Archangles, also becoming Ludociel's pride and joy. He also recalled the pain he felt upon learning that Elizabeth chose Meliodas instead of him. Before remembering the moment his memories got altered and how he was forced into believing that he was Estarossa of the Demon race who killed Mael and acquired the power of darkness through receiving the Commandment of Love from the Demon King, he then remembered all the atrocities that he committed as Estarossa, much to his horror and disbelief.
