I sighed, looking down at the magenta dress I was forced to wear by my father. He and Dad had organised a large party, to the point where it could be a ball, all for the sole purpose of finding me and Jacqueline boyfriends, something that I knew my sister hated, due to her, closeted, lesbian nature. I was against it too, as I'd started to question whether I was asexual or aromantic, as I'd never had a single crush on anyone in my life. I had been laughing as Jackie was dazzling the room, all the boys trying to get her attention due to her looks, and probably money. They didn't care about personality, they just wanted us to get close to our father, the one and only, macaroni-loving; Thomas Jefferson. Hence, whenever a guy tried to talk to me, I shut him down immediately.

Then he walked in and my heart just went "boom!" light brown wavy tied up in a low ponytail, and a dark purple suit set, a girl standing next to him in a dark blue dress, her dark brown hair tied up in a fancy way, but I could tell that she didn't enjoy having it up. I spent a while trying to catch his eye from the side of the ballroom, while everyone was dancing and the band playing at top volume. Eventually, Jacqueline escaped from the guy she was dancing with, father probably had set them up, and walked over to me, I grabbed her arm and leaned up to her ear, "Yo, this one's mine," I whispered, pointing over to the guy I'd seen. Jackie smirked and patted my head, it was clear she had a plan as she walked over to him, making me start to panic, "What's she gonna do?" I muttered as she grabbed his arm, while my brother walked over to where I was, "How you doin' (Y/n)?"

"Shut up, Seb. This is torture. Just look at this," I replied pointing over to Jackie was talking to the guy, "I'm through!"

"I wouldn't get ahead of yourself, (Y/n)," Sebastian replied, "He's looking at ya." My head shot up, and just as Sebastian had said the guy was indeed looking over at me, and my sister was leading him towards where me and Seb were standing. Once they arrived, I felt my brother tap me on the shoulder for reassurance before running off probably to find his girlfriend, Mathilda. I felt my hands get sweaty, "(Y/n), Jefferson. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Jefferson?"

I nodded, "Y-yeah. There a problem?"

"If it takes one of your father's parties for us to meet, it will have been worth it," he replied, taking my hand and bringing it to his mouth, kissing it gently.

"I'll leave you to it," I heard my sister muttering, a smug smirk on her face as she walked off, silently telling me something she didn't know.

-------------------------------

"T-thank you."

"For what? I haven't done anything."

"For showing me how to have a good time before I'm inevitably forced into a marriage to someone I don't know," I replied, looking Jayden in the eyes, his freckles shining in the moonlight as the two of us stood on a balcony. His face became puzzled before he lifted his hand and pushed a stray strand of hair out of my face, "Y-you're beautiful."
