"That's it!" I shouted, storming into the tent I shared with my friends, "He's finally done it!"
"Who's finally done what, (Y/n)?"
"Lee. He has pissed me off for the final time. Firstly he says a woman shouldn't be on the battlefield, then he laughed in my face when I called him a coward, and now he's talking shit about my father."
"So what are you going to do, ma amie?"
"I am going to fucking kill him next time I see him, I'll tell you that much," I replied, grabbing the small gun that was lying by my bed, if anyone needs me, I'll be shooting Charles Lee in the jaw," I continued, walking back out the tent on a Lee hunt.
However a few minutes later, I felt Anand on my shoulder, "What the hell do you think you're doing?! (Y/n), your dad told us to protect you, I'm not letting you do this alone."
"So you want to come help me kill Lee, John?" I replied, a smirk on my face, "Lee's a coward anyway. No way he's not going to shoot in the air."
"If you're gonna duel him, let me at least be your second." John responded after breathing out a sigh, knowing there was no way I was going to let up on this. I smiled and patted his head, "Good boy, you're learning."
-----------------------
"So what were you saying about Lee shooting the air, (Y/n)?"
"Shut the fuck up, John, or you'll be next," I replied, as he helped me towards the medical tent, my side seeping with blood. Once we were there, a nurse came over and brought me to an empty cot, starting to ask me a load of questions, but I only had only thing on my mind, "John, please get my father."
The freckled boy nodded and ran out the tent and I finally turned my attention back to the nurse when she poked my shoulder, "Sir, I'm going to need to remove your shirt to access the bullet wound."
I nodded slowly, sitting up carefully to remove my coat, and shirt, only then remembering that my chest was binded, causing the nurse to gasp, "You're a girl?!"
"Shhh! Don't tell anyone please. My father knows I am here, it's fine."
Before she could respond, a panicked shout was heard, "Where is my daughter?!"
I raised the opposite hand to the side I had been shot in and my father ran over, "(Y/n)! What happened?! I thought you said you could handle yourself!"
"I can, Dad. Seems Lee's not as much of a coward as I thought he was. He was saying bad stuff about you and that a woman shouldn't be on the battlefield, how he knew my gender I have no idea, I couldn't let it slide," I responded, sensoring, myself whilst my father was there. I felt myself getting weaker by the minute, the nurse doing her best to remove the bullet from my side, and I brought a hand up to my father's shoulder, "Promise me that once this war is over you'll take care of Mum for me. Tell her, Georgia and Rupert that I love them." With that, my hand dropped, and I felt myself losing consciousness.
------------------
I woke up some time later and groaned. As I slowly sat up I realised my whole top half was covered in bandages, my chest for I presumed privacy and to keep my gender hidden and my stomach and surrounding area due to the bullet wound. Then I heard muttering from the side and I looked towards to see a head of curly brown hair, pulled into a low ponytail flopped on the bed. I chuckled and started playing with John's hair to the wake him up. It worked rather quickly and his head shot up, "(Y/n)! You're alive! I'll go and tell your father. He asked me to come and tell him if you did wake up."
Before he could leave, I grabbed his hand, "John, wait. I want to thank you for helping me. If you hadn't been there to help me get to the medical tent, I'd probably be dead by now."
"Just doing my job of protecting you, (Y/n)."
"I need to tell you something else. Can you come closer?"
John nodded and kneeled back down on the ground so that his face was at the same level as mine. I smiled and leaned towards his ear, "I love you."
JohnLaurens.exe has stopped working.
Before he could say anything, the tent flaps opened and my father came running in, Alexander behind him. He rushed over and hugged me, "(Y/n), I'm so glad you're alive. Don't ever do that to me again, I thought you had died! You should go back home. I am not going to risk losing you."
"Father, I've survived this long. The only reason I'm in here is because of Lee. Not those blasted redcoats."

The Battle of Yorktown, 1781...
After a week of fighting, a young man in a red coat stood on a parapet. Everyone lowered their guns as he frantically waved a white handkerchief. Just liked that, it was over, we tended to our wounded as others started to count the dead.
As I was checking over a fellow soldier, I felt a hand on my shoulder. Before I knew it, I had been spun around, and pressure was on my lips. When I realised it was John, I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and returned the kiss. Then I saw a figure over John's shoulder and my eyes widened. John broke away, "(Y/n)? What is it?" Before I could respond, a hand was placed on John's shoulder, "Laurens. What are you doing with my daughter?" My father asked, a falsy innocent smile on his face as he stared John down. I could tell John was starting to panic and I giggled, taking the freckled man's hand in mind, "Father, don't be hard on him please. Boys do crazy things when they're in love, and I'm sure John was just about to ask your permission to court me, right John?" I asked, slightly stepping on his foot.
"Right, Mr Washington, Sir, would you permit me to court your daughter?"
I looked my father in the eye, a kicked puppy look on my face as I silently begged him to say yes.
"Very well, but if you hurt her, Laurens, I will personally see to it that you are never able to break a girl's heart again. Got it?"
"Y-yes, sir!" John replied, as I smiled hugging him causing him to nearly fall over.
