Kimberly laughed for herself as she pushed the door open, exiting the building. Phillip and König were following her, not saying anything.
-"You really hate horror movies, don't you?" Kimberly said, looking over at König. He still seemed frightened, his eyes wide. He seemed to look at everything that made noise.
-"I'm not a big fan, no. But as you said, the movie wasn't that scary," König said, hugging himself. There had been a few scares in the movie that had made him scream with fear, but he reassured himself that he wasn't the only one. Others from the audience had been scared as well.
-"It's alright. I get it," Kimberly said, turning back to look ahead. They continued to walk, not saying too much. Phillip had been moody the rest of the evening, not really speaking or looking at them. König had been nervous and frightened, while Kimberly had only been laughing at how dumb the movie had been.
-"And you, sourpuss, cheer up. You knew you didn't have a chance," Kimberly said, turning to look at Phillip. He didn't look at her as he spoke.
-"It's not that. It just hurts because I still love you," Phillip said, staring off into the crowd.
-"Sure you do," Kimberly muttered, rolling her eyes.
Knowing how Phillip had not even hesitated to fuck another woman on their wedding day, she knew he didn't love her. He could tell her he loved her all he wanted, but she had nothing left for him. Her feelings were completely gone, which was the sole reason she had managed to fight back against him.
She found it funny. All the times he had punched or kicked her, she had just taken it because she was scared to hurt him. Now she had lashed out because of a rude comment. Still, she had kept her anger bottled up for years.
-"The movie was kind of fun, I have to admit. We kill people and experience all kinds of shit in our job, but a movie about a made-up monster? Yeah, shouldn't be scary, but it is," König said. He was tired of the suspense between the two of them, so he decided to have a conversation with Kimberly. She always seemed the easiest one to talk to.
-"It's not the movie that scares you, it's the sounds. If you turn off the sound, then it's suddenly not scary anymore. The sudden loud sound is what scares a person," Kimberly said, looking at König. She still couldn't get used with seeing his face, but she enjoyed it much more than his sniper hood. Kimberly felt that König was a really kind and gentle person, which made her feel bad that she hadn't included him more. He had after all been moved halfway across the world to be on their team for a while.
-"I guess so. What's your favorite spot on the team? It seems you're alike me, being tossed around wherever you're needed," König said. He had understood that Kimberly loved to be with the sniper, but it seemed like she enjoyed being front line as well.
-"I used to be the best on the sniper. I trained day in and day out to become the best, but after coming back from capture, I prefer being front line. I don't know what changed, but I feel that I have more control when I see what's happening," Kimberly said, giving König a smile. "When hiding with a sniper you can't really do much."
-"Right. Because you were once Biscuit, the girl with the confirmed kill on 3.589 meters. It seems that you indeed are the daughter of Colossus. I don't mean it in a bad way. Your father was exceptional in his line of work," König said, aware that Kimberly had surpassed her father. Being kidnapped had set her back quite a lot, but she had fought hard to get back.
-"Yeah, I guess he was. Just as I am. It's strange though. We mean so much for the military, but once we get hurt we're useless. They don't need us anymore, and won't help us with our recovery. Like we've done our part. I was just bombed with shrapnel. Yes, my face got ruined and I needed surgery and some time off, but I could have gone back to work quickly. Instead they just cut all contact and expected me to forget everything. It's not fair," Kimberly said, shaking her head. "That's the reason I don't like General Shepherd. He didn't give me a new chance and wouldn't help me recover, but now when they needed me? He expected me to stand ready for a mission two days after being fucking dead."
