Love is generous

"Let it go. Let it go." A sing-songy voice on the porch. My grandpa was sitting there. He usually sits there in the evening. But it is about 01:00 in the afternoon. Why is he sitting there? I visit him once or twice a week. We live nearby.

"Grandpa, why are you sitting here?"

"Your grandma."

"That was more than enough."

"She is not in the right mood. I just wanted to relax"

"I understand. Is she alright?"

"She is talking."

"Oh, is it one of the episodes?"

"Yes, mostly in the nighttime."

"Are you visiting the doctor?"

"No. The doctor sometimes visits our house" She called him. He rushed inside. His legs automatically start working when she asks for anything. My grandpa is a well-established person. He loves his family a lot. His wife, a little bit more.

Since I have known him, he always worked hard to take care of his kids. He has always been there for the people who loved him. He retired so early. He was dedicated to his skill. He is a carpenter.

For this, the other morning, he was cleaning the grill outside because Grandma asked him for a burger. The same burger they ate all day when they were poor. I have a lot of questions.

"Grandpa, why did she call you?"

"She wanted a hot towel"

"Did you both have lunch?"

"Yes, we did. She wanted tacos but the doctor said no crunchy food since her mouth roof is very thin. I didn't give her tacos. I gave her rice and beans" He laughed.

"Haha. She was not satisfied with it."

"I love some tacos. We will go out and get some in the evening when the nurse visits."

"Sure"

"Good" He felt so calm. He was quiet again, taking in the breeze and smiling at the sky. His presence always teaches me patience. Suddenly, my mind had this rush.

"Grandpa..." I paused. I didn't know if it was appropriate.

"Yes, dear" He would definitely give an appropriate answer regardless of my question.

"Grandpa, why do you take good care of her by yourself? I didn't mean it to be offensive. Of course, she is your wife. You could easily appoint another person. Why do you do it all by yourself? You are old and tired"

"Yes, dear."

"You should take a rest. Also, she is going insane. We should admit her to a hospital"

"I understand your concern. I have been doing this for 4 years now. She got a schizophrenia diagnosis when I was very weak. I didn't know how to take care of her. I read about it. I went to a hospital and got the caretaker training. It was for a few weeks. It was worth it. I understood how much she suffered. In the initial stages, she was scared. She couldn't understand anything. I did what every other lover would do. I love taking care of her. I get yelled at every day. I tolerate it because she is going through a lot."

"That is a noble cause, I agree. But you are tired. I feel like you are forcing happiness"

"Sometimes, I have to force happiness and convince my mind that it is there. I help myself out. I might not be very strong for a long time. But for a few years, I would like to keep her at ease" Grandma called him again. He went inside. I was sitting there looking at him.

Only if she knew the efforts he clocks in every day. Generous love.
