"Meera"
.....
"Meera"
.....
"Meera"
"She is not here anymore. You have to sleep and take a rest. We will go to the nearby temple and come back."
"Meera"
"Please understand, Mayu. She is not coming. You have to sleep"
We lost our 4-year-old daughter, Meera to Jaundice. She was a beautiful addition to our family. My wife and I waited to raise a girl child for a long time. We absolutely adored her. I wonder what God decides when he takes the souls of small children away. My wife has not been able to sleep after that. She is trying to sleep in the morning. She lies awake at night. Today, she stopped eating as well.
"Maa, where are you?"
"I am here. In the backyard."
"Mayu is not eating anymore. I tried to give her food for an hour. She is just sitting in the veranda. What shall I do?"
"I will come home. I will help her. You can go to office."
"I am taking the rest of the day off. It is already afternoon."
"Okay. You can stay here with your dad. I will go to your place."
"Sure, Maa. Bring her homecooked food. She might eat it."
"Okay"
My mother and father are staying two streets away. They have always been very helpful since Meera entered our world. They always babysit her while we take little dates around this town. They are in deep sorrow because Meera was their first granddaughter. They loved her a little more than me. I walked into my room and slept beside my father.
"What happened?"
"Mom is taking food for Mayu."
"How is she?"
"She stopped eating today."
"She is the mother. Mothers are always the closest to their children. She needs a lot of time."
"I am worried about her. She is zoning out in the middle of a conversation. She sleeps a lot and never takes herself for a walk. I am thinking about taking her to a therapist."
"Don't label her. Just let her be. If you can't take care of her, bring her here. We are home. We will take care of her."
"I tried. She said she didn't want to leave our house. She might visit the weekends."
"That would help. Weekend visits will be a distraction for her."
"Dad"
"Yes"
"Why am I being strong here? I lost my daughter too. I need time to mourn as well. I am taking responsibility right now and it makes me bottle up a lot of things."
"Don't worry. She is very vulnerable. Someone has to take care of Mayu. Right?"
"No. I am saying that I suddenly took responsibility for Mayu and I didn't properly process anything. I lost my daughter nearly a month ago. I am missing Meera a lot. I can't really be strong."
"Did you tell this to Mayu?"
"She is completely devastated. I am trying to help her."
"Take that role for now. You can talk to her about it."
"Sure, dad"
My mom went to our place to see Mayu.
"Mayu. Open the door"
.....
"Mayu. Are you there?"
Mayu came to the door.
"I brought food for us. We can eat together. Please come outside. We can sit here." She came outside and they both sat in the veranda. My mom mixed the proper meal for her and started to feed her.
Mayu broke down crying. She didn't cry that much after Meera. This was the first time she was processing all the emotions at once. My mom consoled her. She held her close to her for a while. My mother started crying with her but held her a little tighter than before. She wanted to wait till she emotes. Maybe Mayu saw my mother and thought she would relate to Mayu, as a mother. Love meets Blood.
